This discussion is _definitely_ not about road bike folk. On the bike path those people are usually among the most polite. They are very professional. The folks I encountered today weren't even bikers. They were on scooters. One of them was a rental and the other appeared to be an owner.

Well, that's the rub... as long as someone yields... that's the etiquette. I'm fine with it, too, but I think I'm gonna go up the block one if it's a several-block trip. But, yeah, as long as no one is around... a block or two I'll risk that. And then defer to on-coming traffic.

Yeah, it's not really going out of one's way to ride to the other block and back. 90% of the time if you really just want to go a block or two there won't be a conflict. And, you can always ride on the sidewalk if it's wide enough.

I'm not sure how ticketing would work in our system as such. Both of my encounters today were negotiated well by the parties involved. FWIW, both "offenders" were on scooters. One of these days I'll probably get lazy and go the wrong way down the bike lane.

What's the protected bike lane etiquette in #arlingtonva? Encountered two people going the wrong way on Wilson in a quarter-mile span. Was annoyed because I rode to Clarendon for my trip out; don't want to be That Guy. Is it cool to use the bike lane going the wrong way as long as you yield?
