I finally got around to buying a 4k DVD player. Put in the first movie and got a message that I needed to upgrade my TV to fully enjoy the experience.

Favorite anti-nepo babies, i.e., transcendent artists from impoverished beginnings. Chekov and Camus are mine. Any others?

When a war breaks out, people say: “It’s too stupid; it can’t last long.” But though a war may well be “too stupid,” that doesn’t prevent its lasting. Stupidity has a knack of getting its way; as we should see if we were not always so much wrapped up in ourselves.

I’m just a simple country poster but it seems to me if the right actually thought Mamdani would be an albatross around the neck of his party they wouldn’t be desperately trying to sabotage his election

This is exactly it. I would honestly love voting for anyone who doesn’t seem like one of the bad guys from They Live.

A little more than a third of the way through Richard Evans’s history of the Third Reich, and I’m struck by how easily the good old USA is repeating Nazi party shit without the excuses of a humiliating defeat in a world war, a period of hyperinflation, and the Great Depression.
