Planetscale offers servers from $5 up to $1510 for the 32 core 256 gb ram beast. The 1 cpu 8gb ram options seems to be really competitive in that segment, would strongly consider this for my next project!

Added @planetscale.com PostgreSQL as a provider on saasprices.net/db Looks like we have a new strong contender, they have nice prices for storage and egress and comes in as the cheapest option for some heavy egress use cases!

Others charge egress costs so if you move alot of data then Railway will be a good option.

Added @railway.com S3 block storage to SaaSPrices The newcomer surprises with coming in as the 2nd cheapest option in our calculators medium preset. No egress costs can potentially push them to being the cheapest option based on your use case! saasprices.net/s3

Xata tripled the cost of database storage, but cut the compute cost drastically. Egress costs are the same.

Xata postgresql database provider is removing their free tier Xata Lite 😢 But they are updating their prices, their paid plans are actually cheaper than before and they are more competitive now. Check the calculator at saasprices.net/db

I find your pricing page a bit vague, is it true that we are billed $25 for every new 125k functions exceeding the free quota of 125k calls? So that on the starter plan 375.001 function calls would cost $50?
010
Stefan Skorpen @skorpen.com · 08/12/2024
Added the serverless function hosting category to SaaS Prices Now comparing prices for theses providers: Google, AWS Lambda, Microsoft, @cloudflare.social, Genezio, @digitalocean.com, @vercel.com and @netlify.com Image is showing very high traffic, but it really shows the difference in providers

Google Gemini pro 1.5 free tier has 50 free request per day, with max 32k tokens per min. Thats like $1.5. The paid tier is paid from first token ai.google.dev/pricing#1_5pro

Amazon tripled the prices for their auth service AWS Cognito With the new tier system they only offer 10k free users per month, and every user above that costs $0.015 The old plans had 50k free users and excess users cost $0.0055 This is almost a triple price! #aws saasprices.net/blog/aws-pri...

I found the academy a bit lacking last I used it, maybe 6 months ago. I got a better understanding using the larger sample repos back then

Yeah exactly, it's so hard having that mental map when just reviewing others code, like with reviewing PRs. And when the project grows you lose more and more control of it in a way

Learning is a big part of why I love programming, and while you can learn new stuff from AI code, I find that I learn best when I do the work myself

Stefan Skorpen @skorpen.com · 25/11/2024
If you rely on AI to write all your code, you're not really programming — you're just reviewing code. I prefer writing code myself rather than simply reviewing and approving AI-generated code

Finally started implementing the design for my latest indie project saasprices.net?utm_source=bs This is a tool for devs to find the best prices for SaaS tools we often use, and to compare and find alternatives. Hopefully people find this useful Made with SvelteKit and Svelte 5 Give it a try!

I'm using Go for this years advent of code. I dont know anything about coding in GoLang yet, so this will be for fun and for learning. I need a place to start, does anyone have a good course or a youtube channel or something to get me started?

The more popular ai based coding tools get, the more valuable creative, non-ai methods become. Proof of human, proof of work becomes 100X more valuable. Dont make the generic AI look, make your stuff look like its made by real people.

After a bit of calculation I thought maybe I should check other services that I use regularly. And boy are there many options, and many mirror eachother pretty weirdly on prices. You can find my first 5 calculators on saasprices.net now. And I'm working on adding more, and with a designer (woho!)

The blogpost can be found here: blog.skorp.io/find-the-bes... I first compared Cloudinary to ImageKit, and found that they are about equal. But things took a turn when I checked out Cloudflare and Amazon! Turns out AWS is alot cheaper, who knew? (everybody knew). And Cloudflare is pretty good too

Stefan Skorpen @skorpen.com · 20/11/2024
I've been working on image transformation lately, trying to make images small and faster. I started out with Cloudinary, which is a good tool. But I was wondering if there were any cheeper alternatives around. Turns out there is! So I calculated a bit and blogged about the results!

It's my go to framework, feels quite a bit faster to get up and running than for example next.js. A bit easier to host aswell, you get the full feature version always!

Yeah the technology for redis is great, as in a in-memory key value store. Upstash that I use has forked redis as I understand it and stands freely. This type of storage is so fast! You could do this thing with other key value stores, such as cloudflares, aws, or vercel even.

Stefan Skorpen @skorpen.com · 20/11/2024
Using SvelteKit, if it has to be separate then maybe Deno or Laravel
110
Stefan Skorpen @skorpen.com · 20/11/2024
Secure your API endpoints from abuse by adding a ratelimiter that prevents excessive use. This can be done by saving the ip addresses in redis and checking with the Ratelimit library Upstash

Capturing events are crucial to know how your users are using your webapp. I like to use PostHog for both events and web analytics. This is how you capture backend events, it's really easy. And you get a nice dashboard with graphs for all your events!
