Agree. It never occurred to me in 2020-1 that they would pretend the VP could just nullify an election. They have a lot more to lose this time around, and so I'd just like to think through all the potential shenanigans ahead of time. If I believed they would work, I'd already have left the country.

"Shutting down the building" is just shorthand for "using the threat of violence to disempower Congress" one way or another. Congress can pass whatever it wants, wherever it wants. But it has no power to enforce anything, if the Executive Branch simply says "no", as it has with the Epstein files.

Exactly! It doesn't matter what the law says, if all the people whose job it is to carry out the law decide they just don't want to honor the oaths they took when they were hired. It could happen. There are a lot more traitors in the federal government now than there were in 2021.

But you're appealing to law. I know the law. None of this would be lawful, obviously. I assume, based on abundant evidence, that the law means nothing to a large chunk of the people whose job is to carry it out. It doesn't matter whether 3 or 535 legislators pass it, if a law isn't applied.

There's also a requirement that the Executive Branch carry out the laws the legislature passes, in order for them to be effective in any way. Which brings us back to the Epstein files, lol. The Executive Branch carries out the laws Trump wants carried out, for the most part, and ignores the rest.

That's likely, but ICE is huge now, and growing a lot this year. Couldn't they could keep people out of the Capitol? Or are you assuming that ICE would also have to police the inevitable demonstrations nationwide? I think we need to demonstrate like that now, before the next coup fully begins.
