Celebrating Canada Day 2026
As an umbrella organization, the Saskatchewan German Council is proud to support our member groups as they celebrate culture, build community, and bring people together through shared traditions and experiences. One of those groups is the Concordia Alpenrose Schuhplattler Verein in Saskatoon. Since 1981, this lively and dedicated dance group has been preserving and showcasing German folk dance while sharing the joy of German culture with audiences across Saskatchewan, Canada, and the United States. Known for their energetic performances, traditional costumes, and unique blend of folk dance set to both traditional and modern music, the Concordia Alpenrose Schuhplattler Verein never fails to entertain. You can catch them at Saskatoon's Folkfest, Oktoberfests throughout the province, and many community events year-round. More than just a dance group, they're a welcoming community that brings people together through friendship, culture, and fun. Want to join in? The group practices weekly, there are no membership fees, and no dance experience is required. Just come out, meet new people, and have fun! Did you know that Humboldt, SK was named after Alexander von Humboldt, a German explorer. Von Humboldt never visited Canada. His major expeditions were to Latin America from 1799 to 1804. Humboldt was established as a telegraph station along the Carlton Trail wagon route in 1875.
