The strange part isn’t wanting security or wanting a national monument. It’s combining them. Trump’s proposed “America 250” arch was pitched as a tourist attraction and is now also described as a military complex for drones, snipers and ammunition. That changes what the monument means.

The problem isn’t that the White House has Trump TV. Governments can publish their own material. The problem starts when official footage becomes a substitute for independent coverage. And when networks stop pool coverage in protest, the public loses visibility too.
