The change reportedly meant 47% of CERN’s specialized control computers would need replacement for RHEL 9, with another 17% affected by RHEL 10 despite the machines still being fully functional. Rather than replace thousands of working scientific computers, CERN is shifting to Debian Linux 👍

Games used to come with like several installation discs and installing games used to be like, a whole process of swapping in discs as the installation wizard instructs. They used to have like booklets and posters too that you could hang up on your wall etc They used to sell us things we’d then own

The US’ fall to fascism has been a hard watch. Seeing so many signs over at least the last decade go completely unchecked has been alarming. "Make America Great Again" they say. How is making the same mistakes not even a hundred years after the fact somehow "great"? Y’all NEEDED better schools.

Now I choose when I update and it’s just a matter of writing the update command into terminal whenever I have the time. My computer does no longer dictate my life, my life dictates my computer now. I avoided using the big pc because it sucked on Windows. Now it’s a thing of dreams for me.

Tell me why have I ever endured Windows? And why did it take so long for me to switch over? I have wasted hundreds of hours waiting for the computer to finish booting up and waiting for it to shut down, not to mention the updates with the "Please wait" spinner.

I installed Arch on my second computer which is an old desktop. It had Windows 10 and I was used to it needing like a good 10 minutes to start. Restarting used to take like 20 min but I get it, it’s old and has a HDD and not an SSD. 20 min was normal. After installing Arch, it’s less than 2 min.

I’d say if it works offline it’s okay. If it requires an internet connection, it doesn’t run on an on-device model, and that’s a problem. It shouldn’t need to have internet access.

I will never not wear my keffiyeh. It keeps me warm during the winter, it keeps me cool during the summer, and it keeps Palestine in my mind and heart where ever I go. It’s my most used garment, and has been since I got it, as a present. And I cried when I got it, tears of very complicated joy.

And mind you, cab rides in Finland are NOT cheap. I’ve been a cab driver and the sums of money the meter has made me extort from the people I carried played a big role in why I’m a former cab driver and not a current one. The hustle just was not for me. So that gesture was a valuable one for him.

Something real that happened to me just the other dat, but sounds like a fake reddit moment: a Palestinian taxi driver saw me waiting for a bus, wearing my keffiyeh. He stopped in front of me and offered me a free ride, as a gesture of gratitude for standing in solidarity with Palestine.
