Low Spirits Bonus post for 3rd of October, 2026. Animated version of today’s comic. This was one of my first attempts at animation, I’m still just playing around and learning as I go. It was done in Procreate with the animation assist feature, I’ve since picked up Procreate Dreams. #ghost #cartoon

Low Spirits #Halloween daily post for October 3rd. I showed this to a friend, he said “Probably the gas that killed him.” I told him my flatulence has nothing to do with… oh, you meant the oven.” #art #comic #SpookySeason #ghost

A ghost, newly risen from the grave, says “Crap, I think I left the oven on!”

I must be making progress as an author. I’m now getting scam emails from fake publishers who are “interested in my work”.

Signs of Halloween have been popping up in Japan. Code orange alerts I’ve seen recently include Seria and Daiso 100 yen shops, Halloween candy at Seiyu supermarkets and Family Mart convenience stores, and garden decorations at Joyful Honda.

The last two years, I’ve been drawing & posting single panel comics daily throughout October for Halloween. I’ve been drawing a few here and there all year to build up a stack. I’ve got 37 right now. We need to add some days to October.

Code orange Japan: 100 yen shop Seria has their Halloween signage up. Selection is small, I’m still hoping they get more in.

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Y’all were complaining about Halloween being early?

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Older lady who lives in the apartment next door knocked on my door. She likes to let her pet turtle walk around on the balcony. It slipped through the partition and crawled under the AC fan on my balcony. Took a minute to find it, a bit longer to get it out of the small gap. But, turtle rescued.

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

I expect a larger selection will be coming, but Seria near me has started putting out some Halloween stuff.

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

Japan: walked past a 100 yen shop, they’d cleared out some shelves near the front and they’re just starting to put out the Halloween stuff. Like, I saw them put a box of squishy toys or bath bombs or something with a jack-o’-Lantern on the packaging onto the otherwise empty shelf. It’s starting…

Sometimes I see something in nature and then spend the next several years waiting for the shot. Sometimes I never get it. Sometimes you see it and a week later you land it: I give you tonight's murder of crows in front of the sunset. 🪶

I hardly feel it, but the calf muscles twitching looks like I’m about to turn into a werewolf or have bugs explode out of me in an 80s or 90s horror film.

A long time ago I worked at a summer camp. There was a sauna. When the camp session consisted of younger kids we weren’t allowed to let the sauna go above 95 F. This means that I have been in a heated sauna that was a lower temperature with less humidity than the current Tokyo summer weather.

Everyone’s complaining about Halloween stuff in stores in July, 2026. I wonder if they realize that’s the 2027 collection. Halloween 2026 is already sold out.

110

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

With Halloween being pushed now, a little PSA: it’s pronounced “Ree-sez” not “Ree-sees”. I’m hearing a lot of the second version lately.

000

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

If you celebrate “Christmas in July” then just shut up about Halloween stuff going up already. That being said, it is too early for decorating. But it is a perfect time to start DIY project building/crafting/drawing/costume construction, etc

Skelton Porter @skelton-porter.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

In Japan, people will often put a dropped/lost item up on a nearby post or fence, with the idea of making it more visible if the person who lost it comes back to look for it. I saw these glasses on a wall/rail today. I think the person who lost them would need to be wearing them to find them…

Weird dream last night, I was working with a group to sneak through a forest (sort of a D&D setting, my brain probably pulled it from Act I of Baldurs Gate III), and just as we were about to be discovered by the horde of monsters, I ran into their 3 leaders: Bob Newhart, Bob Hope, & Bob Denver. 1/2

I saw a hearse with the license plate #666, and just thought “Hell yeah”. (Japanese plates usually display 4 numbers, but it’s not uncommon to see only 3, or even only 1. They also have a regional indicator and a hiragana symbol which I didn’t take note of on this plate.)
