dyed metals suffer from this a LOT because as far as i can see there are only three presets (1520/1521/1522) that set metalness to 100% and the light and darks of it are disgustingly dull. so your only options are dusty or ultimate color blast

i also think the dye presets lack the proper color configuration to replicate the texturing on undyed pieces. like light upon dark is either replaced by the same two colors or something a few shades different but nowhere near as close as the original

take the phantom vision fending top for example. the base color of the metal (16B) has a roughness of 40%. the dye preset overwrites it to a value of 50% which makes it look more dull for absolutely no reason

i think a big part of why dawntrail shader gear looks like shit when its dyed is because it overwrites the material values based on the dye preset. you can fix how bad some gear looks by disabling things like the roughness and metalness application upon dye
