ok i have figured out how to clear difficulty 0 more often than not step 1: start wyrmling step 2: hug and pet the wyrmling step 3: did it learn charge beam? yes - pick up anything with force or power type and bumble through no - cry and try again

47. GOOD DEEDS GONE UNPUNISHED (2018) felt like a good day for a reread. I'm realising that I've now spent a good chunk of my life growing up alongside this comic and this side book highlights why I want to see its ending. not all of it still hits the mark in 2026, but some of it still hits deep.

The pachinko fights are way more repetitive and the level scaling felt v feast/famine unless I stopped to grind so I wound up copiously savestating after the midpoint, I think that's prob the way to play it if you find backtracking a slog. still enjoyed the vibes and story enough to have a good time

The pachinko and pinball are very obviously stapled onto the critter catcher formula but that's part of the charm. The pinball part was delightful throughout the whole game, the boards add so much character to the minimalist designs and environments! makes the world feel impressively alive

40. PACHIPALS (2026) I mean this as a compliment: while a lot of good games have successfully presented me with the feeling of playing Pokemon as a kid, nothing else recaptured the feeling of playing bootleg *Telefang* as a kid. If you have some patience for GBC-era grind, this is worth your time!

POKÉMON POKOPIA (2026) the price tag was eyewatering but I loved this one. suspect I will be returning to it often in a way I can't with an Animal Crossing grind. retrobait is a fair descriptor but the tone and its unveiling are just so well done. can I also say the soundtrack fucking kicks ass

I need to shout out the passion because the love here isn't *just* for the ideal Pokemon game you played as a child, which I also cherish but tends to turn sour in the wider context of critter collectors. more like, I adore the sidequest shown below and I think it could be expanded into its own game

23. POKEMON LAZARUS (2025) I typically don't play many fangames just because I don't have much interest in them, but I saw this one recced in places I wasn't expecting to see romhack game recs and I'm glad I checked this one out! incredibly comprehensive and passionate, nails its tone throughout

also a wonder card for a random Solgaleo to be able to run both Necrozma and Nebby in the same party 🙏 Nebby kinda shortchanged by this game but still a good little guy this box is the various other guys I tried out in the party throughout the story, some more successfully than others

ingame team this time... obv ~legal hacks~ when not used online make no difference to anyone except me but i went with mostly normally obtained guys for this one, just gave them perfect stats and tweaked the species of SOS catches if i couldn't get the right one within a couple tries. life too short

22. POKEMON ULTRA MOON (2017) turned out I had even less memory of this one than SwSh... that makes sense though, I had stuff going on by then. the Pokemon formula is classic fun and the comedy writing is real good, but in retrospect I really feel the creaking weight of its tech and design debts

sorry Cop Ditto you'll never be half the guy i caught randomly as a child in Fire Red who turned out to be x/31/x/30/x/30 and supported my battle tower breeding projects for 15 years (they have retired peacefully now)

They have a Mild nature and are Lv 91 from all the Daycare experience they got in past generations. The IV Judge screen shows that they have flawless Attack, near perfect Special Attack and Speed, and their HP and Special Defense are also pretty high.

but if it doesn't do as much to push the envelope as BW2 or ORAS it still rounds out the lategame of the base release nicely and I think shores the whole thing up overall. had a good time with it! also the music in this one is some of the best in the series imo. which is not a small feat!

21. POKÉMON SWORD EXPANSION PASS (2020) had a good time revisiting this game in a less tumultuous part of my life. still don't think the main story comes together particularly well but it's a much more interesting object than I used to give it credit for -

initially forgot whistling is a function in these games and thought the solution to the registeel puzzle would match the "bring a guy" pattern with Screech or Metal Sound.. coincidentally one of the things i had in Home with Screech was a Sharpedo from actual Ruby. would've been funny if that was it
