Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 19/02/20253: "All Fours" by Miranda July. As good as everyone says. Gonna have to reread this in like 7 years. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 18/01/20252: "Oona Out of Order" by Margarita Montimore. An unintentionally apt choice for the new year. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 16/11/202435: "Thank You for Listening" by Julia Whelan. A nice story with excellent narration (obvs) 000 0
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 16/11/202433: "Martyr!" By Kaveh Akbar. omg. Definitely on the list to re-listen in a few months. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 16/11/202431: "Severance" by Ling Ma. Still can't believe this came out in 2018. So many parallels to 2020. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 16/11/2024(missed a number above so we're on 30): "The Guncle Abroad" by Steven Rowley. I didn't love it quite as much as the original, but I loved the original So Much. 100 1

Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 15/09/202422: "Such a Fun Age" by Kiley Reid. A re-listen, and still one of my very faves. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 06/07/2024My pre-order of "A Pedagogy of Kindness" by @cjdenial.bsky.social has arrived and it could not have come at a better time. Can't wait to dive in! 142 4
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 02/07/202420: "The Last Murder at the End of the World" by Stuart Turton 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 24/05/202417: " Last Night in Montreal" by Emily St. John Mandel. Nothing will top "Station Eleven" for me, but this had a familiar ESJM vibe 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 24/05/202416: "Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers" by Jesse Q. Sutanto. Ok, so I've enjoyed Sutanto's Aunties books, but this one was even more my jam. A little less chaotic farce but still lots of heart. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 24/05/202415: "James" by Percival Everett. So good. And fun to read two of Everett's books in a row. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 24/05/202414: "Erasure" by Percival Everett. The movie (American Fiction) was a really good adaptation, and I'm glad to have also read the book. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 11/04/202413: "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver. Another one I almost wrote off as "too popular." Having slogged through the other DC in Victorian Lit class, I can say this one is worth the hype. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 11/04/202411 (or 12! lol who knows): "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro. 210 2
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 12/03/202410: "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett. I knew everyone liked this last year, but it wasn't until I saw that the audiobook is read by Meryl f'ing Streep that I rushed to get a hold of it. Such a delight. I didn't expect the pandemic parts to hit so hard. Just an excellent experience, all together. 120 2
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 12/03/20248: "Choosing to Run" by Des Linden. The perfect follow-up to Kara's book, and I loved all the moments when their stories intersected. 110 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 22/02/20247: "The Longest Race" by Kara Goucher. This one was tough, as a runner and especially as a woman. Definitely found myself sobbing more than a few times. But it just makes me love her podcast even more. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 17/02/20246: "The Covenant of Water" by Abraham Verghese. This was on so many people's Best of 2023 lists, so I had to check it out. What an incredible saga of love, loss, and a mysterious affliction. Gorgeous writing and a deeply satisfying journey. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 17/02/20245: "Dearborn" by Ghassan Zeineddine. Short stories are not usually my go-to genre, but I loved this collection. Human stories as unique as the city that unites them. My favorite was Yusra. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 07/02/20244: "Queenie" by Candice Carty-Williams. A re-listen, and loved it just as much this time. 121 2
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 15/01/20243: "The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store" by James McBride. Just like in "Deacon King Kong," it's McBride's community of characters that really shines. Wonderfully weird and deeply human. 100 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 12/01/2024Snow day means extra time with this delightful audiobook 000 0
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 08/01/20242: "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" by Gail Honeyman. I used to rec this one all the time as a bookseller, so it's good to finally read it. I loved Eleanor's journey toward receiving and accepting kindness, and the warm-hearted people she met along the way (And exceptional audiobook narration!) 110 1
Sally @sjwread.bsky.social · 06/01/20241: "The Great Believers" by Rebecca Makkai. I actually listened to like 95% of this in 2023, but it was technically my first finish of 2024. I liked the alternating timelines, but also would have been happy to just stay with the 80s/90s group the whole time. 120 2
