Happy World Mosquito Day 2026. Rainbow maps are back, now in an accesssible palette. If you'd like CMIP6 dengue thermal suitability grids for Ae aegypti and Ae albopictus, for all the runs in our recent preprint, and more (everything we could get hold of), head to the dataverse: shorturl.at/OTntY

"ugh I'm that weirdo" I mutter, stumbling through the shrubs at @epi.ufl.edu to get close to this beauty. Look at that web! I am in awe.

Back yard bug tent time folks - the best of pajama science. To maintain consistent protocols, since we started in lockdown, we use the same materials.
Sadie and the bug tent - looking fairly rough after flying back getting in at midnight. Bottle and pole center, white mesh tent behind, parched grass and palm trees as backdrop, a woman with brown unkempt hair, hazel eyes, under eye baggage and crinkles is smiling in the corner, cropped at the nose. The bug tent - a malaise trap comprising a staked out tent-like structure with black mesh lower, white mesh upper, in a parched back yard, showing exposed grey sandy soil, some yellowed grass, with healthy (watered) viburnum hedge at the neighbor property line, some palm trees in the background, blue sky with sunshine and very light haze from wildfires, and a neighbor yellow house and a neighbor grey house can be seen. Bar shelf in yellow wood on an old grey counter top, with several liquor bottles on a wicker tray behind, an empty plastic screw top soft opaque white lab bottle, and a half full plastic bottle of GULF CREST grain alcohol in front. The mis en prep for the malaise trap sampling, if you will.

Flying out of Gainesville and into Phoenix, it just hits different.
View from a plane window over Gainesville, FL - lots of trees under a blue sky with some clouds. A couple of roads through the forest are obvious. View from a plane window of Phoenix, AZ, in which it is all build environment - houses and roads on a grid system as far as the eye can see. Some green space is visible, but very sparse.

Florida is burning - it's surreal, and we have a couple of fires within city limits, with evacuations yesterday. I am fine, to be clear. It smells like a bonfire, and I keep remarking how 21st century it is that I know what different wildfires smell like. Not SB or CO, but like South Africa

Let's all rally together to tell me to brush my hair and get my hands out of my pockets to give award talks, yes?
Middle aged woman looking like a bedraggled teenager, at a podium with a microphone, wearing a suit jacket, jeans, long hair down and unbrushed, hand in pocket, with a slide projected on a large-ish screen to present a talk on mapping mosquito borne diseases as tools, not scare tactics.

All universities in the US seem to have a University Ave. This one happens to be in Fort Collins.

We are growing frozen veg. It's colder here than I've ever experienced - but I won't make claims about patterns or outliers since it's not my place to do it. Delightfully un-normal frost in the garden. The hawks are out and about and the day is progressing.
Kale plants with frosty leaves looking a little less robust than they might. Back garden stretch of green that might pass for a lawn if one squints - shadowed area covered in frost, with the sunlight area clearly bright green melted.

Had an incredible morning at the met office, thanks to our focal point and colleagues - I'd heard of so many of the methods used, but seeing them, and how they feed into models and outputs was great learning.
Met building, Trinidad Manual and automatic station AWS - lots of it can be 3D printed! Old classic
