When I was growing up, for 20 minutes every day we had quiet reading in school. You read whatever book you wanted to read. The first chapter of a book is a good way to hook a reader and keep them reading.

I don't know who is in charge of sound levels in movies and tv shows, but I have to hold the remote at all times because dialogue is so quiet and background music is too loud. The volume button is as important as the tv at this point.
