I love all the red herrings being thrown in with The Owen. Hangman and Ospreay both have good reasons to win and lose this tournament and compelling programs coming out of it win or loss. Great booking.

Lots to love on Dynamite but the thing that caught my eye most was MJF. He always cuts great post match promos but there seemed to be a fire there that I hadn't seen in quite a while. A pumped up, motivated,on his game MJF is a great tool for AEW to have.

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat Promo of the Year: Hangman & Swerve, All Out go home. Instantly iconic visuals but the greatness is in the tone it set at the start. "Low Ceilings" So well shot & delivered by Hangman, Swerve in ring was also underrated. Masterpiece. 🔥

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat Male Wrestler of the Year: Swerve Strickland (@swerveconfident.bsky.social) His peak at Forbidden Door, All In & All Out was untouched in & out of the ring by anyone else this year. Carried himself as the most important wrestler in the world in all aspects.

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat for Tag Team of the Year: The Young Bucks Even they would admit it wasn't their best year but still the highest performing tag team in AEW. MOTY contender with Darby & Sting and many other strong matches to support.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 02/01/2025

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat for Wet Fart of the Year: Adam Cole & MJF Story continues when we are begging them to stop it. Sadly a very hot contested award from a bunch of wrestlers in very high-profile programs who should know better. Could be any of these really.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 02/01/2025

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat for Gooba of the Year: Harley Cameron (@harleycameron.bsky.social) Such a joy to see on screen. Genuinely funny, multi-talented, always happy to stooge off and show figurative arse. Harleygram was amazing. A perfect numskull heel to have on the card.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 02/01/2025

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat for Debutante of the Year: Will Ospreay (@willospreay.bsky.social) Set the world of AEW alight from the second he debuted. Predictably one of the best in ring all year but was also one of the strongest on the mic as well. A highlight of every show he was on.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 02/01/2025

AEW Match Guide 2024 Golden Wombat Nut Trucker of the Year: Mark Briscoe Always entertaining in any role, comedy, serious, in ring, on the mic. Created a stable of randoms on the power of his charisma alone. Rarely high profile but always trucking nut forward.

The one night story of Will Ospreay at World's End was incredible. Bruv manages to overcome a personal rival in the semis but is beaten bloody. Comes into the final against a guy he has never beaten clean and despite running hot his previous beating means he cannot get it done.

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

Overall World's End was a fantastic wrestling show. The C2 matches were incredible with Will Ospreay making me reconsider my pick of WOTY with an absolute shift. Beyond that the women really stood out too. I didn't hate the main event but the 'big return' fell flat with me.

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 29/12/2024

So I guess they are just dropping the FTR & Outrunners program so they can continue to have completely stale characters but instead have a vanity run with an old dude cause the last old dude got fired.

020

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 28/12/2024

I am exactly the person this Darby & Moxley story is for, I wrote multiple columns and did an episode of my podcast about their excellent 2020 match, how it showcased their character dynamic and how emotionally engaged I was in their rivalry. But in 2024 I'm not feeling it 🧵

Relaunching the AEW Match Guide this year was one of the highlights of my year. Getting to analyse the greatest matches in AEW history has been such a good experience & a reminder of why I love wrestling. Thanks to anyone who listened & my guests. Merry Christmas to all.

The question if two competitive athletes with conflicting interests can put aside their differences and work towards a common goal is actually a pretty compelling one from a character perspective. The issue isn't the idea, just that it's been done poorly too many times.

New episode of the AEW Match Guide Pod is up. Chris Jericho v Bryan Danielson, Dynamite September 14th. My guest Andy and I cover: - Jericho's 2022 resurgence - The Tournament of Champions - The match, a great piece of sequel wrestling - Jericho's up and down 2023 & 24 Link ⬇️

Kenny Omega's return should be the biggest story going on in wrestling right now. One of the greatest wrestlers ever, a founding EVP of AEW nearly died and is coming back after a year away from the ring. Where on Earth is the promotional push from his home promotion?

120

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

The new RAW logo is "rebellious" Get absolutely fucked Triple H. WWE is a machine, the biggest wrestling promotion to ever exist, it is the status quo. It can not be and never will be rebellious.

040

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

I was spoiled on the ending and I got totally sucked into Mark Briscoe v Kyle Fletcher. It is everything that there is to love about tournament wrestling, built and built to an incredible crescendo in the final minute. Mark Briscoe being able to beat anyone on his night is magic.

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

I loved how workmanlike Okada v Mortos was. Okada went in, got hit hard but was ultimately just a level above Mortos. Very enjoyable match

030

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 15/12/2024

One of these cowards better wear that Devil mask to the ring. If you believe in a story enough to take over a year, kill your title reign, fan support, career trajectory & damn near the entire promotion, despite people begging you to stop, you should at least have the guts to go all the way with it

020

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 14/12/2024

Watched Toni Storm on Rampage and discourse aside I think doing the return there was a very intentional choice. I bet in her next promo she acts like she has just debuted in the company. 'Timeless Toni' is going back to her previously successful role.

Who has worse judgement when it comes to friends, Sting or Prince Andrew?

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 14/12/2024

The world needs a new Hiroshi Tanahashi so badly. A guy who's star power and charisma is undeniable but whose WORK in an actutual wrestling match with MOVES makes the people squeel and weep as he fights back.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 14/12/2024

Currently prepping for the prestigious GOLDEN WOMBATS which will be broadcast live. The Nut Trucker The Wet Fart The Pincushion Also boring awards like promo, wrestler and match of the year Date currently being decided on but will be after Christmas, before New Year.

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 12/12/2024

All multi-man matches: triple threat, fatal four way, etc should be elimination rules.

241

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 11/12/2024

Reading people on Reddit talk about Punk and the political games he is playing in the WWE reminds me so much of exactly the things I said back in 2021. He is so easy to believe in when you want to believe.

120

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 11/12/2024

I hope someone has tagged @tunneltalkpod.bsky.social in this. It may cause an implosion of the podcast but I think that would be a fitting ending ultimately.

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 08/12/2024

Going for gold! I honestly thought I was out of it after Mark Briscoe lost the opening match. Plenty of weeks to go but cool to see.

021

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 08/12/2024

The issue I had with Ricochet V Komander is I could see the momentary pause before they hit every big move. It was spectacular but it wasn't slick and that moment seen enough times just breaks things for me when it comes to high flyers.

000

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 07/12/2024

Get your relatives the gift of podcast merch this Christmas. All the cool kids are doing it (like me, I'm cool).

010

Continental K's Rd.3 - Rampage Total So Far Time: 2.44:35 Distance: 70.3km Elevation: 404m Okada V Briscoe was class, probably my favourite C2 match so far. Briscoe so determined to lock in a knock out punch with the J-Driller but Okada had too much leverage.

010

Sam B @sir-samuel.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

If ROH having a tv show kicks off with a GCW invasion starting with a bunch of GCW guys jumping Jericho at Final Battle, that would be a pretty cool work.
