Running is like parenting: - Sleep matters a lot - Bodily fluids are normal - You question every decision - Snacks solve most problems - Everyone offers unsolicited advice - You want the best for your kids/legs - You talk about poop way more than expected What did I miss?

I truly believe that running enhances the richness of human experience: the highs, the lows, the grind, the flow, the pain, the joy, the suffering, the pride. Name an emotion. You'll experience it all running.

Shorter the race longer the warm up.

It took me 45 years to officially run a sub 20 minute 5k. Just getting started.

People ask what you think about during a 100-mile race. You say you just focus on the next mile. But at mile 25, your brain does the math anyway. 75 more. You didn't ask it to. It just did. Learning to ignore that number and just take the next step, that's the whole game.

Running this back tomorrow. See if I can go under 35 minutes this year.

Things that cost $0 and will change your life faster than any coach, app, or training plan: Cut the porn. Cut the weed. Cut the booze. Cut the late-night eating. Cut the screens before bed. That's it. That's the program.

Nothing makes me feel as fucking free as running.

What’s something so big, so ambitious, that everyone around you thinks would be impossible, but is YOUR goal that might just shock the world? Or at least shock them?

Choosing to do hard things sucks when you’re doing them. But after? You just want more.

I feel like I’ve gained more from the things I’ve stopped doing than from the things I started doing. Killing bad habits > Starting new habits

"What's your IF?" I don't know. "What's your TSS?" I don't know. "What's your CTL/ATL ratio?" I genuinely don't know. "How'd your run feel today?" Amazing, actually. You already know everything you need to. 👉 Take the quiz:

Extra long 5+ mile warm up then hit the track. Been a minute since I threw down at the track, but the body said go, so I went.

Your legs know things your watch doesn't. Start listening.

AI can write your training plan. Analyze your splits. Predict your race time. Tell you what zone you should be in. It still can't tell you that today's not the damn day. Your body can. In about 10 seconds. Start listening.

I coach runners. I also coach myself. 4 runs a week, 40 miles. That's it. No doubles, no 6-day weeks. Two lift sessions. 1 bike ride. More isn't always better. Consistent and not broken is better.

We're drowning in data and still getting hurt. More metrics didn't fix it. More dashboards didn't fix it. The fix is simple: after every run, answer one question. How did that feel? That's it. That's the whole damn missing layer.

My dad had a heart attack in his 30s. I was a stressed-out finance guy heading down the same road. So I started running. Not to race. Not for a medal. Not for kudos on Strava. To not be a cautionary tale my kids tell at dinner. That fear still gets me to lace 'em up and head out the door.

30 runners inside Training Vibes. More than half logging 90%+ of their workouts. Nobody's nagging them. Turns out when you make it dead simple to answer "how did that feel?" people just... do it. And then shit starts clicking.

The voice in your head at mile 18 is the same one that talks you out of hard conversations, early mornings, and the thing you've been avoiding for months. Running just makes it louder so you can't ignore it.

Nobody's coming to save your training. No perfect plan. No magical shoes. No coach screaming at you at 5 AM. It's just you and the alarm clock. You either get up, or you don't. That's the whole fucking game.

Your body whispers before it screams. A tight calf. A creaky knee. A weird twinge at mile 2. A run that felt way harder than it should've. Most runners ignore whispers, then act shocked when something starts to scream.

Honest question: could you describe how your last three runs felt? Not the pace. Not the distance. Not the heart rate zone. How they FELT. Most runners can't answer that. And that gap is exactly where injuries hide.

I didn't start running just for my kids. I started because I was scared shitless of ending up in a hospital bed. But I keep running for them. The reason you start isn't always the reason you stay.

I started rating every single run a few months back. A through F grade. 1-10 intensity. Now I see patterns Garmin never showed me. All of it was hiding in plain sight. Pay attention to what your body is telling you.

My daughter thinks it's normal for me to wiggle around on the floor while watching The Walking Dead. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, thinks I'm a big weirdo on the floor. But I'm convinced that daily floor mobility is the reason I'm running 40+ miles per week at 45.

The difference between a good training block and a broken one is usually few runs of "I'll be fine" while your body waves a red flag you refuse to see. Pay attention to how you feel. Record it. Review it. Adjust before something snaps.

Targeting 25 hours at my next backyard ultra. PR is 16. That gap doesn't close with just more miles. It closes with smarter training, better recovery, and learning to stay calm when your brain starts screaming to quit at 2 am.

Everyone wants the hack. Here it is: No porn. No drugs. No booze. No food 2 hrs before bed. No screens 1 hrs before bed. It's free. It's boring. It fucking works. You won't do it because it's not complicated enough to feel like a real plan.

People clown Truett Hanes for chasing 2:16 from 2:30. Someone publicly betting on themselves, committing to a massive goal, and actually grinding every single day? That's the part most people skip. I'm rooting for him.

Your easy runs are too hard. I know because mine were too. When I finally slowed down enough to hold a conversation, my hard days actually got harder. Sounds backwards. It's not.

I used to wear 5 hours of sleep like a badge. Then I tracked my runs on 5 hours vs 7. The data was embarrassing. Sleep isn't recovery. It's the whole damn foundation.

30 people are using Training Vibes right now. 16 of them are scoring 90%+ of their workouts. Turns out when you make it easy to answer "how did that feel?" people actually do it. And the runners who do it consistently? They start noticing patterns fast.

Your watch knows your pace and heart rate. It doesn't know you slept four hours, your hamstrings have been tight all week, or that today's "slow" run felt fucking amazing. Training Vibes captures the stuff data can't. Right after every workout, before you forget.

You posted your run to Strava before you even stretched. Spent the next 20 minutes checking kudos. Still have no idea how the run actually felt. That's backwards.

Elite runners keep a training journal. Not just splits and mileage. How the run felt. What was off. What clicked. Most of us don't do that because it's a pain. Training Vibes sends you a quick prompt right after your workout. Grade it, rate the effort, add a note if you want. Done.

The run you don't feel like doing is the one that matters most. Not because it builds fitness. Because it builds the part of you that shows up when showing up is the last thing you want to do.

The goal became the kudos. The pace. The weekly mileage badge. Your body's giving you feedback every single run. Are you listening?

Most runners are overloaded with training data and completely disconnected from how they feel. Your pace from Tuesday doesn't tell you if you're overtrained. Your body does.

Strava turned running into a competition with strangers who don't know you exist. Log the run, close the app, check in with yourself instead.

Most people train until they're tired. The goal is to train until you're better. Those aren't always the same thing. Consistency beats intensity every time.

The lightbulb moment for me: I stopped asking 'how far should I run today' and started asking 'what does my body need today.' Completely different question. Completely different results.
