49. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition so glad to have FINALLY played this all the way through. while i did have plenty of issues with it, and it's definitely nowhere near as good as XCX, i still had a good time with it and i'm looking forward to eventually checking out 2 and 3

47. CARNIVAL another one crossed off the Darumi Amemiya recommendation list felt kinda like proto-subahibi (wouldn't be surprised if there was direct inspo) but with a less compelling narrative, weaker characters and a completely unlikeable protagonist. final route was quite good though

46. Emio: The Smiling Man - Famicom Detective Club i cannot believe that final ending sequence is in a first party nintendo game. it's phenomenally well done and wonderfully fucked up. this is definitely the best game in the trilogy even if it does still have some pacing issues

45. Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind another solid story with yet another weirdly rushed ending. didn't quite like the mystery as much as the first game but it was still enjoyable. also the soundtrack in this one goes hard

44. Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir a good murder mystery but the ending felt so rushed it didn't pay off as well as it could have. also damn this sure is an old school adventure game huh

43. Summer of the Ubume ty @livelycenobite.bsky.social for pointing me to this a while ago! it is probably the best book i have ever read. it's like a fusion of kara no shoujo and paranormasight and i mean that as an extremely high compliment. it's criminal that so few of kyogoku's works have TLs

42. The Honjin Murders i don't really read books but kara no shoujo got me interested in checking these out and i finally got around to actually reading this while sick in bed today. pretty short but a solid mystery, can def see some parallels with kara no shoujo and looking forward to reading more

41. YU-NO i really wish i liked this more than i did. aside from the terrible save system, with a guide i really enjoyed the vast majority of the main game. but unfortunately, i really disliked the true route which kind of soured the whole experience. by the end i was forcing myself to finish it

40. Mega Man 11 finally went back to finish this one properly after dropping it years ago. i never liked mega man and still generally don't, but the QoL additions in this one made it actually kind of enjoyable (mostly)

39. Yooka-Replaylee this is an interesting one. i liked the original despite its flaws, but i think the changes they made here were mostly in the right direction. the game feels a lot more polished and navigable, however it also loses a bit of its identity and almost all of its challenge

38. Kyoto Xanadu while this is very clearly a setup game for an inevitable sequel, i still had a blast with it. really enjoyed the dungeon exploration and combat (as simple as it is), and the character writing is some of falcom's best. i just hope the next game cuts back a bit on the free time

37. Secret of Mana (semi-replay) for some reason the first time i played this back in 2020(?) i dropped it right at the final dungeon, so now in 2026 i have finally gone back and finished the game for real 😅 i actually like it less now than i did then, great aesthetic but too repetitive and grindy

36. Haiiro no Arcadia (Gray Arcadia) this is quality toxic yaoi right here... would really love to see this get a proper TL so that more ppl can experience it. i thought it was excellent with a great balance of SoL/romance and heavy, deeply fucked up drama. tamaki is one of my new fav VN protags

35. ChronoBox another one crossed off the Official Darumi Amemiya Recommendation List the last third or so of this was pretty great and really made me wish the rest wasn't so badly executed. they needed to spend far more time developing the characters and far less time having sex with them

26. Shiniyuku Kimi, Yakata no Mebuku Zouo only listing this here bc of darumi amemiya premise is fun and there's a solid enough story but it was def primarily made as an excuse for shock content lol. still got me a little emotional, but i can't easily recommend it unless you're very very tolerant
