Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Not sure why BlueSky insists on rotating the image but what a lovely bird to start a ringing session! 030
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 23/04/2026I accept that this comes from Garden Wildlife Direct but it is much more measured than the hysteria of the antis: 000
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 20/04/2026A friend of mine who lives just west of Cricklade, adjacent to the B4040, saw this on his pond yesterday, and sent me these photos. Great White Egret in breeding condition: 020
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 14/04/2026Conservation & shooting are incompatible until they stop releasing 100 million Pheasant and 10 million RLP pa & stop leaving millions of carcasses in the land to feed general predators, & stop the illegal & immoral slaughter of native wildlife so the psychotic shooters have more game birds to kill. 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 11/04/2026After my post yesterday about the RSPB, ZSL and BTO starting a study on Trichomonosis at feeding stations and the decline of Greenfinch since 2005, this morning I received this report from the BTO Breeding Bird Survey. Coincidence? 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 16/02/2026Ravens are still uncommon in Wiltshire. I was privileged to ring the first ever brood of four, when doing my Help4Heroes bit back in the day (the guys loved it). Unfortunately, thanks to the idiocy of Gove and the intolerance of farmers, one was later shot. 100
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 11/01/2026One of my more memorable moments was the first time I set out to catch and ring Snipe: first time I caught three Common and one Jack. The next time was astonishing: three Jack and one Common! Just around a pond on a local farm. 120
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Had a cracking good day today by the looks of it. This was back in 2016: only the second ever ringed in Wiltshire: a total fluke, but delightful. 020
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 15/12/2025We are lucky to have them in our garden on a regular basis. Including this beautiful beastie who blundered into one of my nets one day. She was lovely to handle, no rasping croak, just a little mewling sound. I had to nick a pillow case off the bed to weigh her in. Mrs T was unimpressed. 250
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 17/09/2025I wonder what lies and excuses they will come up with to keep the funding from @nfudc.bsky.social coming in? 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 13/09/2025Adult caught and ringed in the Firs in June of last year. We caught adult male and female in breeding condition both in the same session: 110
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 30/08/2025A very quiet slow bird ringing session suddenly became a good fun session. We were showing a nice, interested family of four some Robins, how to hold and release them safely when this arrived in the net nearest us: 110
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 04/08/2025and this is the angriest bird we ringed all year, just look at that face! 090
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 10/07/2025I could have been jealous if I hadn't done this on Skokholm a few years ago: braydonforestringing.uk/2025/07/10/e... 110
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 01/07/2025I was cleaning green slime and some sludge out of my pond this morning when this came up in the net. It was huge: it could eat my Smooth Newts as a snack! I am presuming female Great Crested Newt: looked either pregnant with eggs or copying me! 000
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 01/07/2025Don't get me wrong, I am lucky to work with a number of really good farmers, part of the @nffn.bsky.social, doing their bit to support local wildlife. Despite being lowland, surrounded by pheasant shoots, we have two farms where both Curlew & Lapwing are breeding successfully: 130
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 25/06/2025Our fifth SPOFL ever in the Firs and only our eighth in the Braydon Forest 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 15/06/2025Decided not to ring this otherwise lovely Chaffinch 000
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 02/06/2025Out on Salisbury Plain on Saturday checking owl boxes I got this photo of a moth, 6-Spot Burnet, that I never seem to find sitting still, so pleased to get this 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 07/04/2025A little ego-boost for me on a Monday morning: the reach of my little ringing blog is quite astonishing. All countries coloured blue have had at least one read: braydonforestringing.uk 000
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 04/04/2025You posted this and, as a long-standing subscriber, and conservationist opposed to the criminals of the shooting industry, I was looking forward to seeing you publish the others! 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 01/04/2025The latest post from a member of the shooting community to justify killing hares whilst pretending to care about their conservation: 000
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 17/02/2025From Google Earth Pro: is every US company cravenly crawling to the whim of the Orange dictator? Anybody in US big business got a spine left? 010
Simon Tucker @simonrtucker.bsky.social · 14/11/2024This one was in my hand yesterday - and my hand survived! Lots of children from the local care farm (and their carers) were well excited. 020
