Have you heard of Lilian Redstone? She was one of the first women to make history her profession and helped establish the first county record offices in Suffolk, shaping how the county's history is kept and shared today. We're honouring her life and work with a range of events orlo.uk/1LVxg

For us in the present, runaway advertisements offer windows into the lives of the enslaved. For 19th century abolitionists, these advertisements exposed the absurdity of human bondage. Check out @adamrothman.bsky.social excellent new article for the JAH: academic.oup.com/jah/article-...

Thinking of @kawulf.bsky.social’s new book. This single quilt block was made in 1915 by Emma Reinsertsen in Milwaukee, using pieces of her mother’s wedding dress (1845), those of her sisters (1866 and 1875), and from her own (1871). UW Madison, Ctr Design & Material Culture. Quilted genealogy!

45 years ago I left England for Milwaukee as a JYA student. 2 years later I returned to begin graduate school at UW Milwaukee. Today, in Milwaukee, I became a U.S. citizen. I want to participate in the defence of the republic and the ideals for which it stands. From today I do that as a citizen. 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
