It took several weeks to get the car back, and despite the gearbox failure clearly being a defect, the manufacturer refused to cover any of the cost and I ended up out of pocket by about £3k. I’ve sent a little help.

The breakdown company were sworn at by the manager and we had to get a taxi back to the airport to hire the only car they had left at 11pm: a half-broken Ford Focus. We eventually got home.

Gave it back in Den Haag to take the ferry as foot passengers and were told a taxi would be waiting in the uk. A taxi was not waiting. I had to flag one down and get 4 adults and luggage to a car hire place vaguely nearby, which was closed.

200m down the road the entire gearbox ate itself and I couldn’t get out of first gear. I drove back and got told it was toast. I had breakdown coverage luckily and we got a tiny, underpowered Citroen Berlingo for 4 adults and a ton of luggage, which kept us moving.

The gearbox on that tow truck then malfunctioned so we got towed on the back of a tow truck that was on the back of another, larger tow truck. We got to the garage where they managed to repair the broken gear linkage.

the gearbox broke on my car at the beginning of a week-long road trip around Denmark, Germany, and The Netherlands. The tow truck that came couldn’t tow it for some reason, so a bigger one was called.

As per usual, you’ve nailed this before <checks notes> actual F1 focused outlets. I could, mayyybe, see a high rev naturally aspirated engine paired with electrical regen/hybrid being cool for the noise and speed? IIRC some WEC powertrains do this. But yes, what’s the point, really?

Ann Leckie’s Ancillary series (your recommendation!) have me questioning why I default to he/him and not she/her when I’m not aware of gender. I can feel it literally getting easier to be more flexible every time I come across it in the books. They’re great btw: as you said, slow burn to start.

We’re pretty well equipped to deal with heavy rain and floods tbh. Last major disaster was 2011 and there were tons do changes made after that. The previous 2 big floods caused a bit of property damage but no deaths thankfully. I’ll be closing my shutters if it gets properly windy, that’s all :)
