We are proud to announce that we have achieved an R-01 grant from NIH. This prestigious award is a huge feat for ME research and highlights the work that Simmaron has been doing to uncover mechanistic drivers in #ME and #LongCovid that can lead to treatment options for patients. Congrats team!

Our rapamycin studies are very promising, yet we know the findings need to be confirmed in a placebo-controlled trial. Listen to Dr. Gunnar Gottschalk explain why we studied mechanisms of rapamycin in responders, and how a random controlled trial can cut through heterogeneity in #ME. #PEM #Longcovid

The recently published findings from Phase II of our rapamycin treatment trial describe 3 pathways that are disrupted in #ME patients and are improved through treatment with Rapamycin. We summarize those findings in a series of updates, starting with mitochondrial dysfunction. bit.ly/4xhafmi

Our decentralized #rapamycin trial allowed #SevereME patients to participate. When necessary, we reduced blood draw volumes and made every effort to help patients complete surveys. In a few cases, this meant conducting surveys over the phone. We all need new models. #ME #MECFS #Longcovid

What if a single gene involved in cellular recycling could help explain symptoms of #MECFS and #LongCOVID? Our findings published in Inflammation Research this Spring dig into that question. This study focused on ATG13, a key regulator of autophagy, which we found increased in a subset of patients.
Chart explaining the loss of autophagy through mitochondria dysfunction, inflammatory microphages known as M1, and Myelin damage that leads to Muscle Impairment and Nerve Dysfunction.

Why placebo trials for #MECFS & #LongCovid? It’s how drugs get approved, and we have none. Placebo trials change medicine. We'll compare RAPAMYCIN with placebo, and all will receive treatment. We seek to prove which subset responds and change medicine, finally. www.simmaronresearch.com/donate

#ME & #LongCovid have no FDA approval, no successful placebo-controlled trial, no accepted biomarker. Our placebo-controlled rapamycin trial is a strategic opportunity for change. Read how testing biomarkers with treatment holds so much promise: simmaronresearch.salsalabs.org/placebotrial #MECFS

Why low-dose rapamycin? It regulates mTOR & autophagy, pathways that may be disrupted in #MECFS & #LongCOVID. Our placebo-controlled trial measures biomarkers, immune signaling, and metabolics to learn why some improve, and who is likely to. Help us prove it. DONATE: www.simmaronresearch.com/donate

Our placebo-controlled trial will pay for the costs of rapamycin, placebo, safety tests, biomarker tests and clinical work, to ease patient burden & so results aren’t influenced by costs.
