Can't say I loved everything about "Goodbye, Lara", but I expect hairdressers to be booked and busy with women lining up for their anime Ursula highlights.

I love my fellow autistic data nerds. kagi.com/search?q=has...
A screenshot of a search query through Kagi.com. The query is "has someone made a database of all critical role dice rolls?"

The response is:

"Quick Answer

Yes — CritRoleStats is the definitive database. It tracks every dice roll across all Critical Role campaigns (Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein, Bells Hells, etc.), complete with timestamps, character names, damage dealt, and roll types. The full dataset is searchable through their All Rolls Dashboard, which lets you filter by campaign, player, roll type, and more. The underlying data was migrated to a Google Cloud database and is regularly updated with new episodes.

Several other projects build on or complement this data:

- The Omen Archive — a repository for stats and analyses that follows in CritRoleStats' tradition, with raw data available via Dropbox
- CritRoleDB — a focused site showing kill counts and roll summaries per character
- What We Rolled — a companion site that lets you track your own D&D campaign rolls using the same style of data CritRoleStats collected

For the raw, full dataset, CritRoleStats is the go-to source."

Fun trick with mailed discount codes from Flolab (who make great iPhone accessories): The free shipping cut-off offer kicks in when customers put a typical "new iPhone" bundle together. But when the discount code is applied, the total drops below this point, which reapplies the shipping fee.
Checkout screenshot from the Flolab store:

"Subtotal, 3 items, 655.00 DKK

Order discount: -98.25 DKK
Shipping: 66.00 DKK

Total: 622.75 DKK
Total savings: 98.25 DKK"

Mind you, the total savings are NOT "98.25 DKK", because the shipping charge got reapplied, which means the total discount is DISCOUNT minus SHIPPING, which comes out to 32.25 DKK ($5, woo). I'll still take it, but a "15% discount code" this was not.

This official statement about thefts at the convention does not inspire confidence. x.com/gamescom/sta...
Twitter screenshot of the Gamescom account. Tweet from half an hour ago, 1PM CET:

"We are aware of stolen hardware and take these reports very seriously and understand the frustration of affected exhibitors.

Since many requests reached us, we would like to inform about general security regulations at the event:
Uniformed guards provide general security across the venue. Individual stand security can be booked separately, and exhibitors are advised to insure equipment against theft.
This is noted in the terms and conditions of participation and the technical guidelines.

All cases have been reported to us and to the police, and investigations are already underway.
We also want to ensure that the reported cases are individual cases, which we are very sorry to read.

Because security has one of the highest priorities to us as an event and to see that indie developers are affected makes us very sad. At an event of this size, however, there will always be individuals attempting to take advantage of the situation.
Our security measures are designed to minimize such risks as effectively as possible."

According to Mark Gurman, the iPhone Ultra (Fold) won't have a telephoto lens. Oof. www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
Article screenshot:

"Beyond productivity, video and gaming, I’m told the foldable iPhone excels as a camera viewfinder. But there’s a significant omission: It lacks a telephoto camera. That could cost Apple some sales. This phone will top $2,000, and the Venn diagram of people willing to spend top dollar on an early-adopter product and those who appreciate advanced camera capabilities — including deeper zoom — is probably pretty close to a circle."

Things in Danish politics are now so bad that NATURALIZATION IS EFFECTIVELY SUSPENDED - as is the issuance of passports for these people. Parties want to tighten requirements further, including right-wing calls to "screen for antidemocratic sentiment" like social media. www.dr.dk/nyheder/poli...
News update from linked liveblog on dr.dk, in Danish:

"LYNANALYSE: Regeringen står over for kæmpe slagsmål om statsborgerskaber

Omvendt vil Socialdemokratiet stramme og bl.a. screene ansøgere for anti-demokratiske holdninger. Det er en ekspertgruppe ved at undersøge mulighederne for.

Og så er det endnu uvist, hvordan Venstre, Konservative og LA vil gå med i en ny aftale."

Was not expecting to read the Silmarillion and see Tolkien absolutely nail the American tech-worshipping billionaire class and our warped transhumanist greed. 1951!
First book screenshot, through OCR:

Anyway all this stuff is mainly concerned with Fall, Mortality, and the Machine. With Fall inevitably, and that motive occurs in several modes. With Mortality, especially as it affects art and the creative (or as I should say, sub-creative) desire which seems to have no biological function, and to be apart from the satisfactions of plain ordinary biological life, with which, in our world, it is indeed usually at strife. This desire is at once wedded to a passionate love of the real primary world, and hence filled with the sense of mortality, and yet unsatisfied by it. It has various opportunities of 'Fall'. It may become possessive, clinging to the things made as its own, the sub-creator wishes to be the Lord and God of his private creation. He will rebel against the laws of the Creator — especially against mortality. Both of these (alone or together) will lead to the desire for Power, for making the will more quickly effective, — and so to the Machine (or Magic). By the last I intend all use of external plans or devices (apparatus) instead of developments of the inherent inner powers or talents or even the use of these talents with the corrupted motive of dominating: bulldozing the real world, or coercing other wills. The Machine is our more obvious modern form though more closely related to Magic than is usually recognised.Second book screenshot, through OCR:

I have not used 'magic' consistently, and indeed the Elven-queen Galadriel is obliged to remonstrate with the Hobbits on their confused use of the word both for the devices and operations of the Enemy, and for those of the Elves. I have not, because there is not a word for the latter (since all human stories have suffered the same confusion). But the Elves are there (in my tales) to demonstrate the difference. Their 'magic' is Art, delivered from many of its human limitations: more effortless, more quick, more complete (product, and vision in unflawed correspondence). And its object is Art not Power, sub-creation not domination and tyrannous reforming of Creation. The 'Elves' are 'immortal', at least as far as this world goes: and hence are concerned rather with the griefs and burdens of deathlessness in time and change, than with death. The Enemy in successive forms is always 'naturally' concerned with sheer Domination, and so the Lord of magic and machines; but the problem: that this frightful evil can and does arise from an apparently good root, the desire to benefit the world and others — speedily and according to the benefactors own plans — is a recurrent motive.

Also a shame to see GTA6 bail on its opportunity to create a cultural moment for fans by giving retail shops a physical copy of the game with the damn game instead of just a download code. Surely it's not that important to deal with broken street dates when you're going to make a trillion anyway.
Screenshot of a tweet from VGP Video Games Plus (Ontario, Canada):

"A Statement from VGP Regarding Grand Theft Auto VI

As gamers and retailers, we recognize that Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history. The excitement surrounding this release is unprecedented, and we understand why so many customers are eagerly anticipating its arrival.

For nearly 40 years, VGP has been committed to supporting physical media and preserving the value of physical game ownership. As part of that commitment, our company policy is that we do not carry physical products for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code.

Based on the information currently available, the physical release of Grand Theft Auto VI for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is expected to be a code-in-box product. As a result, VGP will not be offering it for sale under our current company policy.

We want to be clear that this decision is not a reflection of the game itself. We have tremendous respect for Rockstar Games and the incredible achievement that Grand Theft Auto VI represents.

Should Rockstar one day release a physical edition containing a disc in the box, we would be pleased to carry and support that version for our customers.

Thank you for your continued support of physical gaming and for helping us champion game preservation and ownership for nearly four decades.

— The VGP Team"

Data centres and the Reflecting Pool are a great reminder that sometimes the best journalism is to simply grab a water sample by yourself instead of chasing quotes and comments from people who are going to stonewall you anyway. edition.cnn.com/2026/06/16/p...
CNN article excerpt:

" When CNN independently took a sample of the water last Wednesday and consulted with a pool store that regularly tests water to help read the results, it showed phosphate levels far higher than what is recommended to keep algae at bay based on estimates for a pool that holds 6.5 million gallons of water. CNN obtained another test Tuesday that showed the phosphate levels had dropped but were still elevated.

Phosphates are a primary nutrient for algae, and high levels make algae growth more likely."

Deeply fascinated with the privacy section of Snap's pervert glasses announcement with assurances ... FOR THE WEARERS only. We really need to regulate this stuff yesterday.
Excerpt from the main link in the quoted post:

"Headline: Privacy from the beginning

Privacy has been a core design principle at Snap from the very beginning.

SPECS are designed to be transparent about how they work. They ask clearly before accessing sensitive information, and an LED indicator lights up when recording is taking place. SPECS prioritize on-device processing, and give people control over what gets stored, synced, shared, or deleted.

People should understand what information is being used and remain in control of their experience. Trust isn't something that can be added later—it has to be built in from the start."

Heriblandt mange politibetjente."

Very funny that the follow-up is Hamaguchi saying that this is the opposite of how things were at Square Enix where the whole team would just get disbanded after each project.
Excerpt from the interview.

"Interviewer: Do you think that’s a lesson to other projects within Square Enix, to try to keep the team together?

Hamaguchi: I actually never had that idea before. In general, most development teams within Square Enix would just disband after a title. When we started on the next project, we’d start over again with the process of gathering necessary development members and figuring out what roles they will fill. The only exception is probably the Final Fantasy XIV team led by Naoki Yoshida — that’s a huge team that’s been working on multiple expansions — and the Remake series led by me.

I think it’s something that we should be mindful of as a company, as we go into titles we work on in the future. Because this did bring out a really huge benefit in terms of speeding up and having an efficient development timeline."

#dkpol

Without fail, the richest and most powerful people are always the most cartoonishly pathetic losers you could possibly imagine. The stereotype is almost as insulting as everything they did to gain their power and wealth in the first place. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...
"In 2018, I was a guest at Jeff Bezos’s Campfire retreat in Santa Barbara, California. It’s an annual event in which the Amazon founder invites 80-plus guests—celebrities, artists, intellectuals, and anyone else he thinks is interesting—to spend three nights at a private resort. I had recently been approached by Amazon about moving my film-and-television business over from Disney, and although I had declined (or maybe because I had declined), Bezos’s team invited me to Campfire, perhaps keen to impress me with the power of his reach.""How was your Campfire? Bezos asked me an hour later, and because I am an honest person, and because I have been a host myself, I decided he would want to know that there had been a problem, but that his team had reacted quickly and been extremely helpful. To be clear, I was in no way blaming him, nor was I shaking down the richest man on Earth. Instead, I was simply offering Bezos, also a husband and father, a brief human connection.

But when I told him what had happened, Bezos looked horrified. He did not say “I’m so sorry.” He did not say “Do you need anything?” Instead, he made a face, and in an instant, an aide came and whisked him away. When presented with the opportunity for empathy, even performative empathy, he chose escape."
