I think people reeeeealllly overestimate the role of trade and industrial policy in US dominance of heavy industry in the 1950s and really underestimate the importance of having dropped high explosives on every facility in Japan or Germany capable of manufacturing a ball bearing

Learning how to use the Raspberry Pi Pico. There are a few different languages that can be used. Python and C/C++ are the common and well supported ones... but I'm not that keen on either! Now looking at TinyGo.

Everyone's saying Jeju Flight 2216 hit the Muan Airport fence, but no. The plane got reduced to fragments because it slammed into an Instrument Landing System array with a massive concrete base atop an even bigger embankment. It barely even reached the fence.

Intel launched the Pentium processor in 1993. Unfortunately, dividing sometimes gave a slightly wrong answer, the famous FDIV bug. Replacing the faulty chips cost Intel $475 million. I reverse-engineered the circuitry and can explain the bug. 1/9

I'm a tedious computer nerd so whenever a website unnecessarily asks me for a DOB I always put 1/1/1970. Today I learned the ITV website just won't allow it because I guess it's saving it as a unix epoch signed integer of 0 and this equates to false or empty without strict typing. 🤯

The API response from the ITV server, indicating that my 1st Jan 1970 DOB failed validation because it's mandatory, even though it was supplied.
