Meta settled for $18 billion. The fine is a (very dangerous) joke. The real story is what they've agreed to do next — and it's not about protecting children. They're now legally compelled to scan your messages, photos, and behaviour to "verify" who's a teenager.

Water companies paying CEOs bonuses and shareholders before: - actually treating the water we pay them to treat - dumping sewerage causing environmental harm and social costs - investing in infrastructure so they don't lose more through leaks than any fair use (hosepipe) ban could ever hope to save

Climate action? He's now "open-minded" about new North Sea drilling — despite Labour's 2024 manifesto pledge not to issue new exploration licences. His Energy Secretary has rowed back on net-zero within 10 years. His first major speech as PM didn't mention climate at all.

Rent controls? As Greater Manchester mayor, Burnham backed them. As recently as Monday, he told reporters he was "looking at" rent freezes. By Thursday, his Housing Secretary had ruled them out entirely. That's not a U-turn. That's a three-day turnaround.

Wealth taxes? Before he became PM, Burnham repeatedly refused to rule one out, saying we needed a "greater sense of fairness" and might "have to ask for a little more". Now? A wealth tax is "off the agenda for now". He doesn't want to "create new divisions".

What happens when the US decides to pull the plug on someone? The ICC judges found out the hard way. Sanctioned by the US for doing their jobs — issuing arrest warrants for war crimes in Gaza — they were cut off from the modern digital economy entirely.

The world is exceptionally bleak right now — the collapse of our environment, genocide in Gaza (amongst others), Israel and the US setting fire to the world. F--k, we can't even drink rainwater without PFAS in it, and everyone has the equivalent of a plastic bag of micro plastics in their brain.

I don't see how they even promise it. They pay taxes and the Government handles UBI. But given that firms like Google pay around 19% tax compared to the UK standard of 25% for that teir of profits it's hard to reconcile the two anyway.
