Review PRs, hand roll code, read stuff related to work. Annoy other people with “useful questions” In that order usually

nolanlawson.com/2026/02/07/w... - thanks @cassidoo.co for sending me this one from @nolanlawson.com that perfectly sums up my feeling right now. Tempted to go write this out on some ancient looking piece of fabric in cursive and hang it on the wall!

The more I use AI (particularly Agentic flows) I’m more convinced that it’s now our responsibility to NOT do all those easy tasks. We need as an industry to choose to give tasks to entry devs and coach them through it as we would do it with the AI - not just defer to AI.

One of those minor lightbulb moments. With the advent of AI Vibe “code generation”. Us SWE don’t get paid for our knowledge anymore, we’re paid for our wisdom…

Ohhhh!!! That would be a huge time saver! Can’t wait to try it out

Recently discovering @svelte.dev and getting some pretty heavy “grass is greener” feelings. Just playing around feels so nice!

Currently my biggest issue with all these AI tools is how poorly they perform on mobile. From completely unusable, to getting the input font size wrong so iOS always zooms in… so many basic mistakes…

Technically this works, but it’s way too difficult in practice unless you’re only using a single property.

If it’s internal access to the class then what others say is all I’ve found. If you’re more interested in external access then a generic or sub class can work. class A<TFoo = string | undefined > { foo: TFoo = undefined; setFoo(v: string): A<string> { this.v = v; returns this as never; }

I’m mostly just giving up. I too loved those too features, along with boosts (and I actually like the auto tab close feature 🥲). No other browser seems to come close unfortunately. I’m currently using a very strange combination of Arc and Dia - here’s to hoping Atlassian can revive it.

I think the 1 - 2 upgrade was so hard it just scared everyone off trying to upgrade again! Our clients are also really sensitive to performance degradation in the UI which is really difficult to test (lots of perf optimisation done in) so just potentially a lot of effort that’s hard to justify.

Thanks for the explanation! Makes sense

😆 we haven’t managed to upgrade off of ember 2 yet so that’s a pretty hard sell internally!

The API for this just feels very out of place against other “standard” libraries (well, what passes for standard in react is uncomfortably close to flavour of the month) like tanstack query. My company has 1 ember and many react projects and have want to change to react only, so very keen on this!

SimeonC @simeon-c.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
🤔 is this the same reason to MobX needing a higher order function wrapping each component so it can track the used variables needed for reactivity? Each of those “state callback props” are there to help with the reactivity tracking - is that right?

Nice! The `Request` component seems a bit odd to me, just from comparison to all the other react kind I use - any reason it’s not as a useRequest hook?

Still have to support older safari versions, one day, one day… 😭 (though I really should prepare for that day and find some excuse to try them out 😆)

I’m using asdf, mostly cause I have to switch more than just node versions

Wow, that’s amazing work!! This might actually be enough to give me confidence to get beyond just trying out biome/oxlint or similar and still keep that confidence from the typed eslint rules.

My Pro Tip: git worktree for each feature branch. Means I can have one cursor window for each features branch too (poor man’s background agents)

Looking around I feel like I was the only person to use the auto close tabs and global got key to trigger Little Arc from whatever app I was in. None of the other browsers seem to be able to do this 🙁

Yea, that was the point my boss was making. AI is disrupting coding in the same way the printing press disrupted making books. I’m coming to terms with this being the “Industrial Revolution” for coding.

Personally I’m a “very pretty handwriting” kind of coder so it’s a struggle for me to accept my skills are now becoming obsolete. The analogy helped me come to terms with the change

SimeonC @simeon-c.bsky.social · 14/03/2025
My boss at worked likened the current AI movement in coding to the printing press revolution. People with bad handwriting benefitted the most from the printing press, people with good handwriting either ended up loosing their job, finishing a niche or adapting.

Yea, I think they’re looking for C as that’s the one that says the car is physically being planned to be fixed. B is the classic “could” doesn’t necessarily mean they will do it. A is what we “normally say” but that doesn’t actually mean the car will be fixed same as B 😅

Don’t worry, after about two months your Vite setup becomes just as duct taped as webpack ever was. My goal with upgrading was modern simplicity standard - my vite config is a monster now 😅

There’s a package we use for this at work called wanakana - the wanakana.com/docs/global.... function does the word splitting. We’ve helped with extending the tests on several occasions.

Little Arc is the one thing that I couldn’t find in Zen and it’s one of my most used (abused) features of Arc. That and resetting up my key bindings is too much for right now. Might try later.

😂 I can tell you why we’re stuck on Ember 2.17 - upgrading to v2 took 6 months for a senior dev and it’s really hard to convince anyone to put that kind of time aside for upgrading again. (Not for lack of trying…) even harder now due to bigger and more complex codebase. 😢

The naming of “Page Object Model” is terrible on so many levels, least of which is its tendency to get abbreviated to POM. Biggest issue is how it fails to accurately describe what it’s used for or “modelling”. Should have been “Test Harness” or “User Simulation Model”…

Is anyone using AI to assist musicians and artists rather than do it for them? Like I don’t want AI to write a song for me, I want it to help me write the song, particularly for the less technically minded artists.

Video of my interactive @sli.dev presentation introduction. Having full JS in the presentation lets me do a ton of things for this Feature Flags presentation for tablecheck.com IT Department.

Today’s 🌶️ take. A for loop in a function is infinitely better then `.reduce` in all situations.

Feels nice being able to read everyone’s posts without wading through all the garbage ads. Probably should go look up @bsky.app’s plan for making money if there is one. You know, just in case I need to be mentally prepared for this being temporary.

Has anyone else noticed that the Animated Skeleton loader pattern has just vanished from all major apps? LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube all just use static colour blocks with no animation 🤨 Was this just a trend that’s now over…
