The healer is gone. The sickness is spreading. And the trail ends at an abandoned farmhouse in the snow. What’s waiting in the cellar? A Snowman in the Cellar by Brunehilde Hjertaas out now. Written for Shadowdark, but compatible with D&D and other OSR adjacent games. #OSR #TTRPG #SHADOWDARK

Oh yeah, I think this is the key thing, worldbuilding should create use, not just inventory. A reader, GM, player, designer, and character all need different kinds of truth from a setting. The private author-doc can be as deranged as needed, but the public-facing world needs handles.

If both you and the players enjoy that sort of thing, then yeah, go for it. If you on the other hand had planned an epic heroic journey, then I’d advice a little heart-to-heart with your players about their expectations for this campaign 😅

How I grew up with it, being found first means you have to seek next turn, I guess as sort of a punishment? I’ve always found seeking pretty funny, but the thrill of hiding can’t be beat. What are you planning on using this for?:-)

This sounds like a lovely experience 😄 Do you have any tips when it comes to timing the sessions? Often I find it difficult to keep children’s attention for longer periods of time, so I’ve defaultet to a «we’ll play for a while and take a break when it’s obvious that sitting still won’t cut it»

I fuckin love Jeremy Irons in this movie. He is so ham, it’s lovely. Apparently his kids convinced him to accept the role, as they loved D&D.

Working on your own brand, or in our case, @seidmanngames.bsky.social , is the opposite. Total creative control, quick turnaround, but have to do all ourselves.

Simen Strandberg @simenstrandberg.bsky.social · 11/04/2026
With that being said, in general I find large brands have very strict guidelines, and it’s often tiresome and slow to initiate new ideas you might want to try out.

I’ve been very fortunate in my career so far, being able to work with big recognizable brands, who often operate with big budgets. Big budgets often mean more data, and more data results in greater insight in consumer behaviour.

Honestly, just switching from “there’s a team for that” to “guess I’ll do it myself” has been the biggest adjustment. It’s fun, but very different.

I’ve worked in marketing for 10+ years, with brands like Discovery, HBO Max… It’s been such a blast going boots on the ground again with little to no budget, just trying to spread the word organically and genuinely. And it’s worked well so far! Maybe I one day get to do this full time…?

Man, reading this make me both sad and angry. You were abused by someone you should have been able to trust, and then failed by people who had the power to help and chose not to.You deserve so much better than what was done to you snd what happened after. I hope things are gentler around you now…

Yess, it’s a Cy_borg campaign I’m running, where the world is slowly consumed by a virus causing blindness and subsequently rage. The players have the cure, and have to decide the fate of the world basically while huge megacorps try to track them down 😄

I’ve often ended sessions before our allotted time, if a moment like that occurred naturally during the final 30 minutes or so.

Simen Strandberg @simenstrandberg.bsky.social · 01/04/2026
I almost always wanna close out on a big emotion if possible. If it’s a great joke that lands, a feeling of triumph or a solemn defeat… Anything that makes the last moment memorable and keep players psyched for the next session. That or a proper cliff hanger. Easier said than done 😅

A terrible consequence of the timeline we’re living in is that reality itself is so wack and crazy that april fools jokes pale in comparison. Anyone wanna share some cool jokes you’ve seen so far today?

The only way I’ve been able to make the switch from D&D, is if I myself take the responsibility to be the GM and introduce one of my player groups to another system. But it is usually more of an ordeal than «just playing D&D again,» because that means I have to do more to convince them and explain.

First inksmith, now «muckraker»?? I gotta get into this game obviously 😅

Simen Strandberg @simenstrandberg.bsky.social · 01/04/2026
The feeling as a GM is indescribable when the group is comfortable enough to engage with the story as their characters, and not necessarily as the players. Finally tapping into the immersion and not worrying about «playing right.»

Question aside, «inksmith» is just a kick ass name. Makes me want to let go of the sword and write words and stuff.

I didn’t really know what to say, so we rolled with it. Learned like three sessions in that this dude played it like Skyrim and wanted to wack things with his axe, while I wanted something a bit more involved. Oh well.
