Whenever he said something then, ME! I think of Grover in “The monster at the end of this book”.
The last two pages of the monster at the end of this book. It says “well look at that! This is the end of the book, and the only one here is… ME! I, lovable, furry old Grover in the monster at the end of this book. And you were so scared! I told you and told you there was nothing to be afraid of. the end.

Gift Link for SCOTUS article in today’s New York Times #Giftlink #SCOTUS #NYT www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
since that night a decade ago the logic behind the Supreme Court pivotal 2016 order as remain mystery. Why did the majority of justice is bypass time test of procedures and opt for a new way of doing business?

they answer we remain secret for generations, legal experts predicted. we’ll never know at least until our grandkids can read the justices internal papers from that time.,” Stephen Vladeck , a law professor at Georgetown, wrote in a newsletter in February marking the anniversary of the order.

the New York Times has obtained those papers and is now publishing them, bringing the origins of the Supreme Court shadow docket into light.

Chotiner strikes again. Why David Boies Thinks We Should Support Trump’s Iran War www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a...
Chotiner- Sir, you’re a very very smart guy. You don’t think Donald Trump actually cares about casualties do you?

Bois- look,, I actually do, OK? In his first administration, in 2019, when he first turned back the bombers from hitting Iran, I think he did that because I do think he actually cares about human life. Now that doesn’t mean that he respects human life the way I would.

Chotiner: it’s a sliding scale

Bois: but, if we bomb With you that I think the evidence is all we did, I don’t think it serves us well to deny it.

On the other hand, I do understand that in wartime people a lot of things that are un to support their side. In every war we fought. now, with respect to civilian casualties, it is a terrible cost of war, And, by my account, the cy Stees that have been incurred are far less than the civilian casualties of the Iran caused in suppressing the protests.

Chotiner- these are in competition other right they’re both bad independently.

Bois- exactly right.

#Trump on possible terror at home- “but yeah when you go to war you expect some things. Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war some people will die.” time.com/7382697/trum...
One Iranian drone killed six American service members at a US command center in Kuwait. Asked whether American should be worried about retaliatory attacks at home, Trump acknowledges the possibility. “I guess,“ he says. “But I think they’re worried about that all the time we think about it all the time. We plan for it. But yeah, you know, we expect some things. Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die.“

Chotiner says, “ all I meant, congressman, is we’re putting the war in the hands of two people, and I asked you if you think that they would care about a girl’s school being bombed and you—“

Congressman Greg Landsman, a second-term Democrat from Ohio, says, “ yeah. I mean, but again, I would certainly hope. But the people who are making these decisions, the folks who are on the ground actually executing these decisions, I believe they do care and yeah, care and yeah, they care. “

It gives me great hope in the future of my career as an educator with two Master’s degrees to see a community college student drop out turned podcaster of hate on the main fed govt building of edu in this USA as an “American Hero of Education”. Is there no Confederate or KKK memorial available?
department of education building in Washington DC with six banners on it representing the 250th year of America Booker T Washington on one banner, Catharine Beecher in another. Racist, xenophobic, antisemitic and Islamophobic hatemonger Charlie Kirk banner hangs next to Beecher’s then a 1776 red banner, then a larger banner with empowering our states to tell the stories of our heroes in American education.

The WSJ today has a long article on Stephen Miller (hiss). www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Miller was influential in Trump’s first term, but his power has expanded in the second one. He personally drafted or edited every executive order the president sign, faced little opposition from administration officials to his work to reshape immigration policy. Miller help come up with the idea to blow up drug boats, official said, and to deport migrants into a prison in El Salvador using wartime alien enemies act, and action now under court challenge.

Senior administration officials credit Miller with increasing cooperation with the FBI and other law-enforcement agencies to the immigration effort, as well as pushing the state department to force countries to take back immigrants period White House officials who defend Miller say his work as homeland security advisor requires his involvement in a range of the president‘s priorities

@jvl.bsky.social is right. liberalism sees state violence as a monopoly restrained by law. Fascism sees violence as a tool, unleashed when in power, and outsourced when not. It’s not hypocrisy. It’s a worldview. Call it what it is.
A screenshot from the Bulwark. If you were sketching out, liberalism approach to state sanctioned violence, it would go something like this: the state has a near monopoly on the sanctioned use of violence. This awesome power must be scaffold by a legal framework in which of the rule of law is regular, transparent, and durable. Meanwhile, fascist, take a different view: the purpose of the state power is the subjugate the disfavored classes. Therefore, the power of the state to commit violence must be unchecked when the fascists control it; but must be tamed by private sector, violence in the period, leading up to the fascist takeover.

I bring all of this up because it’s important. Not to view this disparity as an example of garden variety, hypocrisy. It’s not. It’s a coherent world view.
And we should call that world view by it’s proper name

My favorite thing that truly changed my life from Pope Francis is this:
One thing people may tell themselves to feel better about not giving anything. The pope said is “I give money and then he spends it on drinking a glass of wine“ but the pope said if “a glass of wine is the only happiness he has in life that’s OK instead ask yourself what do you do on the slide? What happiness do you seek in secret?“ Or another way to look at it the pope said is recognize “you are luckier with a house a wife children” then ask why should the responsibility to help be pushed onto someone else? The way one reaches out to the person asking for help is important he said, and must be done by looking them in the eyes and touching their hands.

Holy shit Ira Glass is a whole MOOD.
Glass: “ no I do not. I think that’s bullshit. I don’t care about all of that. Fuck legacy. Fuck people of the future. Fuck people who will be after all of us are dead. Fuck the people who will be alive, having lunch and seeing movies. Fuck them. I hate them. I’m not making a radio show for them. I’m making a show for people who hear it now. And when it’s done and we don’t make it anymore, it’s perfectly fine for it to vanish into the midst of time. Like everything will, and it’s fine if that happens very quickly. It doesn’t matter.”
