I was told surgery as a last resort. My pain was mostly trying to sleep, or throw a baseball. And I could give that up They did the PT with lots of bands and I still do the exercises. Knee and hip are much easier than shoulders.

I was advised not to because range of motion often never comes back. Based on the range of motion I still have the doc didn’t think it was worth it. And pain comes and goes. PT and strengthening the small muscles around the shoulder helped. If I had frequent and severe pain I would reconsider.

I haven’t had the surgery but have several friends who have. I have a few small to moderate tears and have been advised not to have them repaired. I get periodic cortisone shots when it gets too bad - once a year or so.

I tried to avoid those when my Mom died. You know, the stiff upper limit, be strong and men don’t cry bullshit. It nearly led to a breakdown. Grief is normal. It is healthy. And so is the crying that goes with it. Please allow yourself to do so. It will subside eventually.

First I am very sorry for your loss. It can be unbearable at times. This may sound cliche, but the only thing I found that really helped when my Dad died was to allow me to feel those emotions, have the bouts of crying and grief. My true friends provided comfort when they occurred.

Something should be done about wealth disparity (and income disparity). The problem is many proposals that sound practical often are not and raise a host of other issues. There are things that could be done to reduce seemingly permanent deferral of gains taxes through borrowing against the value.

The book value is assets minus debt. Debt affects both book value and market cap almost equally.

the $38 billion is a Forbes estimate of the family wealth, not the company. The company isn’t their largest asset. Those estimates are frequently way off the mark. Whatever the rules are the advisers for the rich will come up with a way to pay far less than it appears they should.

You have a brokerage account for publicly traded stocks. The majority of companies in the US do not publicly trade. The orange guy in the WH until recently would have never paid such a tax.

That at least is an objective measure. But the equity on the balance sheet for nVidia is $229 billion and its market cap is $5.5 trillion. Amazon book value is $411 billion and market cap is $2.8 trillion. I have no objection to a wealth tax.

Not all stocks trade in a market. In the US that is true for the vast majority of businesses. Tell me the value of SC Johnson stock - the maker of Pledge, Windex, Raid, etc.

What do you do for a privately held company that hasn’t listed its stock on any market. What is SC Johnson worth? The amount the issuer pays each year reduces the value of the stock. Which hurts the value of share held by any lower level employees. A wealth tax has to be at the owner level.
