I said before that `Accept` should never be used outside of `Follow` interactions. Want to "accept" something? Introduce a new activity type, `AcceptSomething`. But now I am fairly certain that `Add` and `Remove` should be avoided too, for similar reasons. They all look the same. To figure out […]

So RIP Deno… They are stopping work on the runtime over the next 12 months. I was hoping that we could some day have a Node.js alternative with a more modern interface/tooling, but with this and Bun now being part of Anthropic and vibe-(re)coded to the extreme, it does not seem it will happen […]

Fedify 2.4.0 is out. The main addition is support for FEP-ef61 portable objects. A Fedify server can now host actors whose identity is a DID instead of a domain, serve their signed objects through `/.well-known/apgateway/`, and verify the portable objects of other servers. I tested it against […]

@light So, what kind of forum do you imagine? If there is a single instance, then there would be no peers who replicate the hashchain and do the verification. This means an admin can rewrite history

@light > (A delete or an edit is a visible break in the hash chain) I didn't notice that yesterday. A traditional hash chain can't have breaks, e.g. you can't remove a commit from git history without changing all subsequent commit hashes.

@light Because being a node operator is not an easy job. This is true for any complex network, and social networks are probably the most complex. My point, however, is that you don't need a new protocol if you want to run your own node. It's already possible with ActivityPub.

I think Mastodon's new UI design is good. It appears to be evolving in the same direction as #Mitra. For example, our "Lists" are already called "Custom feeds" and there is a hidden "Explore" page which will soon be added to the sidebar, replacing "Local", "Federated" and "Profile directory" […]
