I've always enjoyed more positive games coverage. It has always felt gross to me that the space is dominated by hateful rhetoric. I want to be enthused when reading about games, and most people gravitate to critics who share their tastes already. So why not be positive.

After beating Zelse i wondered how the gbc version played. Ended up finishing it last night. Thoroughly enjoyed Quest: Brian's Journey.

Ive had it for a long while, it's served me well. Now though theres a darker strip down the left side of the screen sadly. I think it got a bit damaged during a move.

Game 1 of 2026 finisher Jan 8th 11:59pm. Tales of Symphonia. Great entry in thr franchise. Its narrative is easily in my top 5 of JRPGs for how it sticks to its theming so well into the end. My only real hang up is how the last two big dungeons kind of recycle the same trope.

Here is everything I finished last year. A lot shorter list than 2024 due to a lot of life changes.

2025 I finished a lot of jrpgs Id been sitting on for a while. 2026 I think Im going to continue that trend but focus on a franchise that I've only casually enjoyed. The Tales Of games. I have so many in my collection and only finished a small few. They always start well and pitter out for me.

These arguments FOR AI really feel like they stem from a place of ego. People who lack the ability to be vulnerable and produce something that isn't as grand as their image in their head is all I keep hearing.

What I wouldnt give for a real classic remake of Rift. I feel like the rift system in its release incarnation would go over much better in todays world.

And then theres some out there who argue till their throat is dry that the key to a good loc is just selling them the game in Japanese with a packaged waei jisho.

This is why I mention Wizardry. In it if your party fully dies in the dungeon you have to make a new party to go in and retrieve the bodies/gear. Then attempt to revive the dead party back in town, which works on a coinflip if they will be revived or deleted. Some more casual DRPGs dont do this tho.

Wizardry and most DRPGs I feel have a lot in common with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and extraction shooters. To the point where its interesting we dont have a fantasy game that is like STALKER or Tarkov, insofar that it simulates the minutia of the survival and also the danger of gathering the loot itself.

about 13 hours in, half way through Chapter 2. I find the writing and presentation to be a bit of a mixed bag at times. Some of the conversations can be a little hard to follow with the lack of animation. However, the combat is really fun, and I plan to see it through to the end.

I just finished Shining Force a week ago for the first time ever. Great game when you consider what it's contemporaries were. Part way thru SF2 and the improvements are immense.

Recently got my first Saturn and it came with this controller. It some how fits my hands less than the Mega Drive controller while having the weirdest shoulder buttons. But heck it does feel cool to play with. If only playing any non turn based rpg with it didnt suck.

Just finished getting my BA in Japanese, I had really hoped I would've gotten to a point where this didn't hit as hard as it's hitting now.

Really great webcomic, constantly excited for new pages. GF recently binged all of XPBoost and Spell X Sword on my recommendation and fully agrees too.

Considering channels like ThorHigHeels, Hazel and Amelie Doree exist and do seemingly okay I'd say yes.

Honestly I might not buy many games anymore like I used to but this has felt like the major problem when I go searching for indies now. Thru steam its too easy to know what the popular ones are, but I've wanted deep cuts that either you can't find on steam or haven't hit anywhere near best sellers.

I've got next to no genuine expectations aside from "Nintendo stuff". But, I'm pipe dreaming the FF9 remake, Oblivion remake, DQX / XII, and DS/Wii U VC by utilizing a Switch 1.

Monster Hunter Wilds left me needing more Monster Hunter. I've done nothing but play various MH games for the past couple weeks now. It's all I can think about. Help.

I appreciate what you do. After leaving the other place I've had to rebuild my timeline to give me a steady stream of really cool indie games to learn about; your account has been a big help. It's important work keeping lesser known games in the discussion since people will always know of the AAA

I often wonder what the Game Critic space would look like today had TB gotten to continue his work, as it always felt like his form of informational activism in Gaming lead to genuine changes. See the rise of FOV sliders for one.

Early Youtube critics like Stephanie Sterling and Totalbiscuit gave Gamers a critical and also moral understanding of the Games Industry. Since then they probably feel like their crusade hasn't born fruit, and so they keep pushing because they see these big AAA mtx games a few times a year

Finished Shining Resonance Refrain. A game that while fun probably would've made for a better anime rather than a game. Running through the same areas over and over got tiring. But the combat music and characters pushed me through. Over all enjoyable experience.

It's been funny to me seeing that conversation coming back up after first remember seeing it back in the days of the Xbox Indie boom. You'd think if they were going to fix everything itd have happened. Seems to be an issue of discoverability for games and gamers not understanding themselves.

Finished Game of the Year 4: Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization. Been sitting on finishing this one ever since it came out. There's simply too much content at every turn, and while the combat itself is much improved over Hollow Fragment, the game itself fails to recreate the fun of it.

I would even add in the OG PSO2 to this list. While it had higher fidelity graphics than PSP2 the level and character design still screamed video game. However the PSP RPGs all did this style well too.

12 has arguably my favorite aesthetic of any FF game. The shading/lighting along with the usage of colors makes the FFT art style pop in 3D.

It gives me the same feelings the old MMO did, in that the feeling really is there but you're unable to completely separate the feeling that the design's integrity isn't all there due to the ability to spend money to influence gameplay.

Currently I'm working through Shining in the Darkness, Shining Resonance Refrain, and Golden Sun. Holding out hope that after beating SitD and GS that I grow to really like Camelot but over 10 hours in both and enjoy them but they're not as amazing as their inspirations. SRR though has been great.

This years game cleared list is already started. I've been broke paying bills n such so still just working through my backlog. Started the year of strong finally finishing Chrono Trigger, but I think the game I had the most fun with so far was Strangers of Paradise.

Most of these last 7 games were ones I started well before the end of the year or had the intention of finishing a while ago. But due to some reason or another I just put them off for some time. Glad to finally finish them though.

It's been a minute since I posted, so time to get back to it. I rounded out last year finishing another 7 games after Lost Odyssey. For a total of 43. Yes I do include MMO expansions, especially if they have a credit scroll.

Try the Dragon Quest franchise. The switch has remakes of 1 2 and 3, as well as 11. The ds has 4 5 6 and 9. The 3ds has 7 and 8. If you are willing to jump thru some hoops (or less if you speak Japanese), Dragon Quest X will give you hundreds more hours of playtime even.

It's insane, people have a blindfold on when it comes to games. They only pay attention to the BIGGEST AAA studios, and even then sometimes just don't even TRY the games before talking shit on them. They want the hype era of Halo 3 back, in a mediascape that feeds on anger. It's not coming back.

Just finished it. The final fights were stressful, but the ending was well worth it. Still feels like a ps1 era FF, but even so would easily be tied for number one amongst 7,8,9. Drew a few tears from me through out the final hours.

Nearing the end of Lost Odyssey. I finished FF13 before it and I'm finding it hard to agree with the old sentiment that LO is the real FF13. It feels almost too derivative of past FF narratives to be a true FF game, though it is beautiful. The real irony is like FF13 it also asks you to read a lot.

It's genuinely crazy how many games are out there to play to the point where, once you really embrace the hobby, you just have no chance of ever being bored or done ever. Accepting that we will never get to play all the games we want to is a given at this point sadly.

Genuinely enjoyed Forspoken. Felt like a fantasy apocalypse crossed with Ratchet and Clank, or even Crackdown/Saints Row 4. ME1's controls never felt intuitive, and I just couldn't get all that invested because of it. I hear 2 is better, so eventually I'll give it a shot.

Played since 05, but left right before Pandaria. Had this same feeling hit when FFXIV celebrated 10 years though. I'd be shocked at how much older I am if it wasn't for my knees being bad already ^^;;
