iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

BIG NEWS! After 3 years helping people search for their perfect home at Rightmove, I'll be stepping up into grown-up, child-free hospitality in the new year. With my own kids growing up, my wife and I having more "free time" for ourselves, this feels like a natural next step for me.

I’ve started work on 2 personal iOS apps this week: 1. A little app to curate MP3s I’ve purchased into a @housefinesse mix. 2. A simple app to help my wife track her mileage when driving for work. Both have been developed with Claude in an evening. I’ll share the process on my blog next week.

Do you know your daily phone screen time? Mine's over 4 hours (mostly productivity and reading). Even 2 hours a day adds up to 730 hours a year, 91 working days, three full months gone. What's yours? 👇

Bit of a workshop week behind the scenes at PETALS HQ 🌸 There's a new face joining the team, a fresh way of looking at your scores potentially _taking shape_ and a couple of quiet conversations that might turn into something worth _sharing_.

Word of the day (overheard in a meeting earler): "infantilize" When was the last time you treated an adult or capable person like a immature child?

Mid flash sale on @petals.team, I went to check the site analytics and found nothing. Not a low number; zero events, ever. Best bit: I never even added @posthog. (1/2)

Ran a flash sale on @petals.team last week and sent the big "last chance" email. Forgot the actual link. Zero opens, zero clicks, one very quiet campaign. (1/2)

#TIL when #Claude adds a row to a #GoogleSheet for you, it's going through #Zapier under the bonnet. So it quietly stops the moment you run out of tasks on your plan. No error at the sheet, just a row that never appears. Check your zap limits. #automation

Started as a #Claude experiment; asked it for a 10 mile dog walk near me. Pleasantly surprised: it plotted an interactive map with pretty accurate route data, then built me a GPX from Ordnance Survey grid refs. Ended up in the OS Maps app anyway. Both plot as the crow flies, so a few awkward spots

PETALS runs on Heroku, and I wanted ad hoc reporting on live data without exporting to a BI tool every time. No Looker or Postgres connectors. Turns out Heroku ships its own MCP server that queries the Postgres add-on directly with OAuth, no middleman needed.

What does (yesterday’s) international vlogging day mean in 2026? Here’s some of my thoughts around the topic along with how it crosses over with podcasts, influencer content and even public speaking.

Due dates on my TickTick tasks stopped meaning anything; everything kept sliding to tomorrow until the date was pointless. Ripped them all out. Moving to a pull-based kanban instead:

My latest attempt to make the most of my oldest domain name SuperRams.com for fellow Derby County fans is in the works. It’s a Patreon bringing together all the distributed communities across Facebook, Bluesky and X every match day - something I believe has always been the underlying connection.

12 years enjoying Buffer for my social posts. I love what Joel, Andy and friends have built over all these years and will continue to keep it in my toolkit for content sharing. Honestly, the streak feature has definitely encouraged me to pick it up more this past year. Neat idea!

I've recently been working on a new email flow using #Zoho Mail's #MCP server with #Claude to track notifications from specified senders then creating actions straight in my #Ticktick task list. One small step to keep the inbox tidy and tasks prioritised accordingly.

Spent some time on a @HouseFinesse.com project in #Descript via #Claude this week. I transcribed the audio introduction in a voice note to then paraphrase the show notes in a Markdown file. Quite a neat little integration and the audio was ready in my Descript project to work with as well.

Digging around some of the iOS audio settings, I realised it was set to mono for some reason which was definitely limiting the audio experience of music in the car. Check around all the settings. There’s some quite useful tools available now.

One of my personal goals is to ensure we have a collaborative team who support each other rather than work as independent heroes. No harm in super-star skills but always better to share the work and reward out fairly.
