It's pretty brutal when the US Secretary of Defense personally states explicitly that Ukraine has no business in NATO and that the captured territories are gone for good. Putin clearly feels that all the pain of sanctions and the blood shed are worth it. The US is finally giving in. Awful!

The russians’ sabotage of underwater cables has already gone far beyond any limits of tolerance. Unfortunately, they cannot be deterred with words. Right to sink the vessel responsible for damaging, without asking questions, would be proportional and could also serve as an effective deterrent.

The Russians, in collaboration with the Chinese, have now launched a large-scale effort to damage Europe’s underwater infrastructure. They no longer even pretend that it happened by accident. NATO Article 5 needs an update.
