Hello! I'm Micky, a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary studying the ecology and evolution of parasites in Sable Island horses using DNA metabarcoding. I spent 3 summers on a deserted island as a glorified poop picker and amateur horse photographer.

🦋 intro: The Sable Island project is a long-term individual-based study of feral/wild 🐴 in 🇨🇦. >1500 horses have been monitored yearly since 2007 (current pop size ~500). Research focusses primarily on the causes and consequences of ecological and individual variation. #ecology #evolution #consgen

We’re still marooned on Sable Island, but at least the sky’s putting on its happy face. So, it’s official: the only thing more trapped than us right now are those who haven't migrated to 🦋! Follow us for updates from the long-term study on the ecology, evolution and conservation of Sable Island 🐴
