Good news is that I can still run the GA8P70HZ w/out wiring the EV bits. Someone runs a Turbolamik on a virtual clutch & deleted the torque converter. 😂 Supercaps aren't viable. Rather not roll my own 400+ volt pouch cell pack. But it *must* weigh <100lbs. I want power, not capacity. We'll see.

What am I signing myself up for, man. This is so invasive. Heresy even. Hours of research on batteries; most viable option seems to be the BMW PHEV cells. As in, the current-generation ones. That cost thousands. 🙃

You happen to have any suggestions on a cheap but decently accurate power meter? For Ld/Lq/etc measurements. Only need it for the 8HP and a 3ph 6kw Prius AC Compressor. My VFD doesn't do auto tuning. Oops. 🥴

I can see why. He's also using Rinehart inverter that costs 16k, and a Formula E motor that costs who knows how much 😭

I have an Einstar arriving tomorrow. Going to scan as much of the '05 as I can before listing it as a shell/part-out. This will be huge test of my abilities. I'm on my own for everything. Programming, HV wiring, adapter plates, batteries/mounting, driveshaft.. I've never touched a welder. LOL

Complication is the hydraulic pump is chain driven from input shaft. Can't engage a gear until input rotation, which causes clutch slip from a stop. There's a 12v, LIN bus, aux oil pump. Nobody can control it yet. Need to brute force the signal. Or, the HIS cylinder on ICE cars may fit.

Bingo. ✅ Think of a torque converter's lock-up clutch. Engine on one side. EV and transmission input on the other. Lock-up off (engine disconnected, off). Pressurize any gear clutches. Drive as an EV. Lock-up on, trans in neutral: EV Motor can start the ICE and-or charge the batteries at 0mph.

Hardest part: ~80kw, ~400v, lightweight bank. <5mi. range/KERS-like. Haltech, MaxxECU, FuelTech are all developing for 8HP. In 10 years, time attack hybrids will use this unit. Aftermarket can't afford to ignore the challenges it solves. So, selling my Miata & buying one to play with on a bench.

GA8P75HZ kinetic flow: Crankshaft > Lockup Clutch > EV Motor > Trans input. Which means: No need for a starter. ICE regen at stop. Pure-EV driving. Driving after engine failure! Regen/cooler brakes. ZERO clutch wear! (RPM sync) Batshit blips/shift speed. ICE warm-up assist. & More.

Pipedream car: Miata, EFR turbo, K20/Ecotec, 8HP, Hybrid, with clutch pedal. OP went HTG GCU (out of business) route, is stuck on CAN comms config. TurboLamik control is no different than ICE car. Torque Converter lock-up (and all other solenoids) are the same whether ICE or PHEV.

Folks on OpenInverter have started to notice the 330e trans is the same 8HP-70 everyone loves. 🤔 ... With a free 150ftlb, 90kW (ish) motor replacing the fluid torque converter. Three-figure pricetag on ebay rn. Fantasized about this since lockdowns. I'm in.

Still can't get over how fast ZF's third-gen 8HPs can upshift. From inside, I can't hear it over the emulated "boomph" upshift sound emitted via Active Sound Design. The shift completes before the tach even starts to drop. This is the first time I've heard it at 12/10ths from the outside. Asinine.

I have tried and the results are never up to the accuracy I need. Doesn't help that a lot of surfaces have complex geometry that I need to be accurate (as they will hold hundreds of pounds of force).

What did you use for the scan on the Mini and how accurate has it been if measured? 🤔 I need custom hard-mounts for my pelican in my trunk. Custom mounts for boxes/IR camera on my roof rails. A wind deflector for same. Tablet on my sunvisor. yadda.

I badly miss the days when I could just, join a cluster of friends. And meet new ones. The end. Every weekend wasn't a club w/ 50+ users. Every other weeknight wasn't a lewd/drinking party. I didn't have to choose who I see based on vengeful moderators. Everyone didn't feel the need to host.

TIL: My instrument cluster runs PowerVR Rogue graphics rendering; ARM64 Integirty v11.7 RTOS; on Renesas R-Car M3n; with Yes hardware security features enabled lol. This is why I rushed to buy a '24. This module (DKOMBI8) is 1 of ~3 that are locked down. On all '25+ models - it is all ~28 of them.

For me, it's the double-nasal inhale. Breathe a full chest full thru the nose, hold it for a second. Pull even more in thru the nose. Hold it for a second. Exhale orally, slowly. Enough to give me a head rush but it really helps.
