Public Meeting Notice!! The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a public meeting for the East Basin Road Groundwater Superfund site. We encourage community members to attend and make their voices heard! Tuesday, August 18 at 5:30pm
Public Meeting Notice!!
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a public meeting for the East Basin Road Groundwater Superfund site. This meeting offers community members an opportunity to ask questions about the ongoing Remedial Investigation.

Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2026
Time:
5:30 PM – Availability Session with all partner organizations available for informal conversations
6 - 7:30 PM – Presentation followed by a question and answer session
Location: Route 9 Library & Innovation Center
3022 New Castle Ave, New Castle, DE 19720

EPA is initiating field sampling activities at the site in Summer 2026 as part of the ongoing Remedial Investigation. The near-term field sampling activities that are planned include a surface water and sediment investigation and site-wide groundwater sampling.

This next phase of work will help us:
- Understand the nature and extent of contamination in the area
-Study how groundwater and surface water interact
-Gather information needed to evaluate potential risks to people and the environment

The purpose of the meeting will be to provide an update on this work and what the community can expect. The results of the Remedial Investigation will help guide our future cleanup decisions.

(5/6) So when you see reports from the DOE that solar didn't perform when the sun went down, you can shake your head at the silliness of that statement knowing that our solar did remarkably well. If we can get batteries on the grid in PJM, we will see dramatic improvements in reliability and prices.

(4/6)...peaker gas plants from having to run, which was the main driver of surging prices during the heat wave. That said, the solar we do have installed in PJM, it performed 5x better than predicted during the event.

Delaware Sierra Club @sierraclubde.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
(3/6)The report goes on to say that if PJM were to deploy at a scale similar to ERCOT's deployment of renewables and batteries, we could have saved $102 million during the recent heat event. Adding just 3 GW of batteries in PJM would have prevented 10 GW of expensive, polluting coal and...
