Nice band alert! Belle and Sebastian’s Perth gig was cancelled tonight because their gear didn’t make it over from Queensland. So they invited fans down to Langley Park to say hello and play a few tunes. (Not my photo btw)

Sigh. Cancelled my Mubi subscription for the 19th time today. Who keeps signing me up for this? (It's past me, forever hopeful that future me will have unlimited time to enjoy its diverse delights.)

I have no idea if it’s a good film or not, but every still I see from “The Wizard of the Kremlin” has an a creepy uncanny valley feel - like it’s acted by wax museum renditions of Paul Dano and Jude Law.

Just a few hours left to back Perth-based Simon Miraudo’s upcoming book, Last Rites for Lost Films. www.kickstarter.com/projects/sim... I’ve just started reading Simon’s previous book, Book of the Banned, and I love his writing style. It’s knowledgable and also very human and fun to read.

Some people at movie club dinged Isle of Dogs for being slow and lingering. Can’t wait till my pick, Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow, rolls around. That being said, First Cow is a high-octane action movie compared with Showing Up or Certain Women.

Sigh. No appreciation so far of the Ethan Hawke movie references I seamlessly worked into my review of “H is for Hawk”. boxd.it/eAs3qt

A review of H Is for Hawk (2025)
The hawky bits of this were wonderful and there are some really nice long scenes. One in particular has Claire Foy on her first real training day, with the hawk resting on her gloved hand and now and ...

etude:diagonal - probably my favourite track from sora's re.sort - glitchy soft percussion mixed with vague vocal snatches - love it it when the "right now" chimes in youtu.be/_brYEELu_2s?...

Setting a high bar for suave elegance in the office today. Popped the W key off my keyboard to dislodge a crumb then spent ten minutes crawling around on the floor unable to find it. Eventually realised it had slid down the side of my boot. I'm like a modern day David Niven.

I love reading about multi-millionaire actors heroically turning down multi-million dollar roles for artistic and integrity reasons. We have so much to learn from them!

Just glanced at my recent Letterboxd reviews - seems I really like calling films a "wild ride" - used the same phrase for Funny Pages and eXistenZ.

One of the highlights of my trip to Japan was going to Magayura in Noda. Five hours of amazing, weird, experimental music and performances. Loved that I had a clear view out to the train platform - people just going about their lives - while all this weird shit was happening in this little room.

My current level of exhaustedness is evident by not only buying a tub of premade "carbonara" sauce on the way home but also precut mushrooms to mix with it. pre - cut - mushrooms!

nytimes reporting in many areas is problematic - but i'm still pleased to see that their "seems to contradict" has moved to a clear "contradicts".

It's so fun and informative to try to copy a work of art you enjoy, in the same medium, a different one, whatever. I wish everyone who does not identify as an artist would try this without concern for "being good." or doing it "right."

☀️ It’s gonna be a hot few days in Perth! 💧If it’s hot where you are too, please leave out cool, fresh water for the wildlife in your garden. Like this mumma roo in our garden yesterday, the birds, animals and inverts will all be very grateful for it! #auswildlife #wildoz #kangaroo #heatwave

Am I the only one who finds pictures of meat being handled by people wearing black gloves kind of gross? BTW, it's not the meat I find gross - it's the gloves.

Falling in love with a new band is so nice. My latest is Clairaudience. A bit like a less pretentious Go Betweens (it's the Robert Forster-ish voice) at times and nothing like them at others. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt-z...
