If the post office is still "awaiting item", has the item really "shipped"?

Spinning this cut from the Studio One Kings comp yesterday and wondered what originals are going for. Checked Discogs to find the comp is the only place it was ever released. And no other songs exist by George Philip (except another version with background vocals). www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnqd...

Got the new reissue of "Yard Style" in the mail this week and it sounds great. It was cut with Mad Professor for Ariwa in 83, and while it probably shouldn't be anyone's first J.C. record (start with the Bunny Lee stuff from the mid 70's), it's highly enjoyable. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSef...

Speaking of Peckings: The b-side of Macka B's "Never Played a 45" is also a banger (and also uses the "54-46 Was my Number" riddim). "Grapevine" (2012) appears to be the only release by Leanna. www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-fc...

This is supposedly the last track Garnett Silk cut before he was tragically killed in a fire in 1994. No dub was ever mixed. The flip side (2nd half of video) is the background singers riffing over the swinging Digi roots version of the "Crazy Baldheads" riddim. www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-7q...

While the Prince Jazzbo toast here was recently included on the Jazzbo/Bushay comp "Black Heart Man"(which sounds great and is well-priced), it sounds even better on this 12" following the awesome vocal cut by the somewhat obscure Moon Rocks: "Unite Jah People". www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWwO...

I've had a reissue of this (on the Afro label) for years, and it's a super cool cut. Credited to N. Elliott & N. Bailey (Noel Bailey was in the Hippy Boys and Roots Radics). Flip side is a different track (no dub that I know of) credited to the Jet Sets. www.youtube.com/watch?v=76_l...

Included on the recent Ranking Barnabas: The Cold Crusher collection are 4 dubs from one of the great UK roots albums: Insight, by the Blackstones (produced by the late, great Phil Pratt). One of those, "Murderer", is from their classic version of "Open The Gates". www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbQc...

Remembering Gregory Isaacs on his birthday. Here he is with Sly and Robbie on the 12" of "Rock Dis Ya Reggae Beat" also known as "Going Down Town" in an extended mix on his Showcase LP with S&R. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOep...

For John Holt's birthday I'll post his cover of Lou Rawls' biggest hit. The story I read was that Bunny Lee lived next to Holt and heard him singing it in the shower and talked him into cutting it. Love the crazy effects on the dub. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXrJ...

Everett Cooper was a sound system operator in Kingston before moving to Toronto in 1976. He seems to have only released one song on a 12". Originals go for $$$. I have the "unofficial" 7" release which I find myself playing often these days for obvious reasons. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j90...

Happy birthday Tappa Zukie! Here he is rocking Johnny Clarke's "Peace and Love in the Ghetto", combining two of my great passions: reggae music and litter pickup. www.youtube.com/watch?v=49qO...

Happy birthday Freddie McGregor! I always liked his version of Burning Spear's "Swell Headed" for Lloyd "Spiderman" Campbell, retitled "Never Run Away", and sometimes "Never Get Away". www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpMV...

Here's my favorite version of the Chin/Pablo "Java" riddim (of which there are many), by the late Tony Brevett of the Melodians. Only available on a 10" EP. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbhK...

Celebrating the end of my school year, and the beginning of my summer today. Here's my favorite of the (at least) three times Sugar Minott used the M-16 rhythm. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHl_...

Here's a 12" for what feels like the first weekend of summer (at least in Oregon). My copy is called "Nice, Nice, Girl" by Michael White, but apparently it's also been released as "Yvonne" by Delroy Melody. Either way, it's a great track with a super laid back vibe. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFq2...

Tommy Sheakespear only made one 7". That song is included on just one compilation. But what a tune! Two thirds through, over a swinging and bluesy riddim, Tommy declares, "The night is getting cool my dear and some of my favorite songs will be playing tonight"... www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLKU...

Here's one for 12" Tuesday in the Lover's style: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R9X... Revelation was a British self-contained Lover's Rock group that released an album (and a dub version of that album) in 1979. IMO their best tune, below, was not included, as it was released the previous year on 12".

Don't post much, but this new Perry/Murvin rip from Tuff Scout is both retro cool and totally meets the moment. Some of you may need to dig out your 45 adapters. And how about that crazy whistle! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr4_...
