In April 1952, 12-year-old Barry Walner mailed a newly released Bowman Mickey Mantle card to the Yankees with a 3¢ stamp and a SASE—and got it back signed. That card is now headed to auction. TTM (through-the-mail) collecting was and still is how many fans connect with their heroes.
