I’m saving this video. That’s the most emotional James Cook has been in his life. Love seeing the weight of a loss lift from his shoulders - especially because he’s carried the weight of many Bills wins.

Ugh. I wasn’t emotionally prepared to have that film pop back into my consciousness this morning

It’s a defense in a brand new scheme playing with two rookie CBs (Harrison still counts). I’m frustrated with the defense, too. But it’s very conceivable that players will improve execution with time on task and young players will benefit from experience. It’s “hope not a plan” though.

James Cook after the Rams missed FG then not watching the Bills winning FG

I wanted them to just let the Rams score with 1:39 left. Figured it was the only way to win. A reverse Waterboy scenario.

It’s not at all the defense I expected. I anticipated getting burned on blitzes/aggression. Not sitting back and letting offenses have their way.

Brady had some nice play designs in there. Defensive struggles are concerning. But I’m (naively?) hoping that they come together and are average by December.

I don’t hate the arm punt there

Give me Pat Williams (finally a true NT) and Nate Clements. I would love Lee Evans, too. But defense is a bigger issue that offense.

Maybe we can trade him for a HOF-caliber running back. 🤔

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

They knew he was before they drafted him. And then resigned him. Andy Reid cares very little about the character of a player if their talent or production is high enough. Shocking that his son ended up in prison.

In that he started out great and then tanked?

I don’t think the general public comprehends the damage that Trump and the GOP have wrought on the federal judiciary and federal legal agencies. It will take a generation to purge it from the system.

He would have only finished writing half of that message.

Hmmm… can this be like the Ted Lasso episode where they implement Total Football and it’s a disaster at first then turns into a thing of beauty once the players get used to it?

Maybe we’re just excited that Carter is on the field at all - even if it’s on the ground. 😆 Any ROI > No ROI. Ugh. I was really optimistic that Leonard would be able to maximize the roster’s strengths. It’s still very early, but Wks 1-4 aren’t encouraging.

That one seems to be on Dorian right? Gets pulled too much to the inside.

Using the word “cool” to describe a sweater vest is redundant. They are inherently cool.

A good idea. He’s young. I’ll give him grace.

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

That’s a mistake. Bernard’s had some great moments for the Bills, but he’s a shell of himself. He looks slow and lost out there. You can’t be slow, undersized, and lack instincts.

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

The general public is unaware of this, but a requirement of being a Chiefs fan is that they must mention the Chiefs or a Chiefs player as a non sequitur at least 2-3 times a day. “What?” you say. “Isn’t that annoying?” Yes. Incredibly so.

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Brady wasn’t my first choice either. (I wanted Kubiak) But I think making a definitive call on him as a HC after only 4 weeks is absurdly premature.

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Look, I’m frustrated too. But making sweeping judgments after a HC’s 4th game doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Why didn’t you post this after the first 3 games?

100

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I know right! He looks so slow this season. If you’re going to be undersized, then you CANNOT be slow!

010

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

So surprised at his fall from grace. I thought he was going to be a revelation in LA. I have - thus far - been VERY wrong.

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Might be time to give KEO more snaps and cut our losses with Bernard

000

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I feel like Bernard didn’t used to look so slow. But maybe I’m just making shit up.

100

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

It’s disappointing given his step forward last year. But his prior step forward makes me optimistic that he’ll “get it” in this defense as well. Especially with what a good teacher Leonard has been in the past.

100

M_J @sic-utere.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Really hoping for improvement. It’s not an unreasonable expectation either. Cole and CGJ just started playing together and the corners are very young.

…but aside from the movement/stunts up front, the Bills DEF doesn’t feel like a Jim Leonhard Def right now schematically. Minimal simulated/creeper pressures, not much pressure package variety/creativity, too much air space in coverage, and playing more on the back foot than dictating to offenses

The ceiling for the Bills defense in year 1 under Jim Leonhard was always going to be limited because of the positional archetypes they carried over/had. But the floor is a concern right now. And granted it could improve as time on task increases…
