Dazed and confused, and still strangely certain of most things. All opinions expressed are mostly unoriginal and lifted from someone else’s timeline.

Another page in the great American experiment.

Still fondly remember, as a kid, seing his son’s work and how blown away I was. The flying beast traveled a generation it seems.

The lazy ones get by on denigrating groups or individuals. Introspection (Hicks or Maron), absurdity and play with logic (Hedberg) or mocking elites (Carlin) takes more work and talent. My pet theory I’ve always reached for to explain your observation.

By instructing it to answer the way you like. I have mine set to be specific, professional and not validate me and when I make jokes it totally ignores it and sticks to the specifics. It helps remind me that while it has *some* form of intelligence it’s not in any way human which is easy to forget.

Yeah, it used to describe a very specific strategy but they seem to be using for just reloading a save if something went wrong. I think it has quite a bit of a pejorative tinge now.

It has never ever been about them being fash or not, but whether it was acknowledged.

I should have said popularized, not invented. Point taken. My position still stands. And I say that as someone who has triple digit playtime in Kenshi.

The term save-scumming could only have been coined by a generation of gamers who never held a day job.

You could build an alternative LinkedIn today with only LLMs posting and no one would be able to tell. If you’re one great skill was always to write or say things that add nothing of substance but yet makes everyone slightly more enthusiastic, your ship has sailed.

They were all “no regulations” up to the point where China started to catch up and now they’re all about regulations.

I think they’re desperately trying to find ways to curtail open weight and local models to assure they have a monopoly.

Agree. The AI wiping us out is probably a hoax for now. But LLMs being very harmful when used by humans is already an observable reality, and the latest cyber attacks everyone’s talking about are just that. Humans using LLMs with bad intent, ie labs training their software to hack other software.

Imagine applying that logic to other things. There’s no proof that me being piss drunk while driving is dangerous because no provable accident has happened yet.

💯. Also self policing by the media to avoid that very challenge means the liars don’t even have to bother wriggling out from under their lies anymore. The logic functions so the more controversial they are, the less lying costs them. Politicians trying to be honest are pressed, liars get a pass.

Sibben @sibben.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Well, the political class wants be above the people they represent because thats where the status resides. The right does this largely by grifting off people and institutions, which its base likes because it reads like power. The left does it by being aloof and contrarian, which its base hates.

Sibben @sibben.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Yeah, but being a liberal party means you have to fumble the ball every time. Because if, god forbid, you pick a position popular with regular people it also means you are like regular people.

As much as it defined my taste and imagination, I’m certain I’d not like it much if I saw it for the first time today. Star Wars is a thing that can’t ever be taken out of its context. Empire works because it’s focused and darker, and serves to prove your point: the other movies aren’t that great.

Because Republicans, for certain reasons, don’t pay a price for lying, they can just keep doing it, and if a particular lie only lands with a subset of voters it’s still a win. We can snicker at this, because it’s so obviously dumb, but we’re not part of their audience so it doesn’t really matter.

Most people would agree nurses are drawn in part to the job because they get to care for people. Ask them to apply the same logic to law enforcement and watch the contortions as they try to avoid the obvious fact staring them in the face.

That is to say, if you’re a polity politician, and not particularly ideologically driven, you’re in it for the game and not the results. I think this is why people like Mamdani freak establishment dems out.

I just don’t think they can be that consistently inept. My theory is they’re just superficially interested in federal politics. The main focus is on their own position in the party circles and local scene. In that context, losing to the other party every four or eight years can have its benefits.

Imagine how insane if pharmaceutical companies were allowed to conduct research, testing, and production in any way they liked. They could provide products to anyone, even kids, for free if they wanted (great for addictive drugs). We wouldn’t let *any* industry function like that, would we?

The GOP going full fascist left an empty space for a regular conservative asshole party and so many centrists are just dying to fill that.
020
Sibben @sibben.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
I fear we’ll see four year oscillation cycles with dems just fixing the worst things and GOP breaking more. The media ecosystem is way too broken to counterbalance the incumbency effect we’ve seen play out the last decade. There’s no collective memory to last more than a news cycle. Sucks.

It’s hard to argue with the facts. But the extrapolation then is that the current system is inconsistent with a democracy. Partisan court, sure. Maybe it’s more transparent and realistic. But then they can’t be seated for life or chosen in the current fashion.

As an interface for work instructions human speech, and thus the chat bot, is pretty useless. It’s ambiguous at best, and lacks any specificity. It’s why bridge engineers don’t just call the contractors telling them how they want the bridge.

Sibben @sibben.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
That mistake actually works pretty well in the context though
000
Sibben @sibben.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
I agree but I’d say LLMs can be great when built as specific tools. It’s really the generic chat bot that’s overhyped. And totally not sustainable when people drain a small lake to ask mundane questions och how long to cook rice.
