It told me taking square roots isn't about calculating (+-*/), it's about naming! Why did none of my math teachers ever explain it this way? And then we talked through symmetric breaking and programming...

I asked Astra to explain it. Something still didn't click, so I asked it to expand. Then expand again, and again, and again... like zooming in on an image with infinite resolution until the blur disappears. And suddenly, I saw the full picture and why it's so beautiful.

What a privilege to be alive in this era. I couldn't sleep, so I started thinking about a Galois theory question I got stuck on in school 10 years ago. Back then, there was something about it I just couldn't grasp through textbooks (which frustrated me so much at the time).

Metaphors - Shu Ding
A metaphor is a function between two worlds. Every good one forgets something on purpose.

... i have joined the @nextjs.org team at @vercel.com. for a start, i'll be working part-time, so please don’t flood me with bug reports yet. however, i’ll try to keep an eye on them as i want to understand what problems Next.js users are running into every day. i want App Router to get good!

This is actually really funny to me. While react developers are criticizing RSCs because it's viewed as abandoning SPAs, anti-react developers are criticizing react SPAs by citing issues from the 2010s solved by RSC.

The making of cobe.vercel.app. I’ll see if I have time to improve the perf & add marker overlay to it during the holidays

it’s still the same, the issue is that when moving an iframe node in DOM tree, all its state gets lost so the preloaded cache will be gone 😢 the core problem is that there’s no way for a new iframe element to reuse any existing cache
020
Shu @shud.in · 29/11/2024
that works, but in my case it’s more like preloading an iframe for the next navigation (not the current page)
110
Shu @shud.in · 28/11/2024
yeah I think that might be why they removed `link rel=preload as=document` :/
020
Shu @shud.in · 28/11/2024
yeah, but how do I *pre*load it? like developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W... but for iframes

Shu @shud.in · 28/11/2024
what’s the way to preload an <iframe> in 2024? all I found on the internet was lazy loading it

don’t useEffect, but if you must, don’t call setState in it

I recently switched from a 8GB RAM MacBook Air to a 36GB M4 Pro. Things become much smoother (literally ship 2x more PRs) but I wish someday I can instead optimize my tools and go back to my 8GB Air :/

Yes CJK languages don't naturally have the concept of “whitespace”, so people are not very used to do that manually.
