Think this is the video that covers most of this stuff youtu.be/WA6c78W7nn4?... I don't know enough to have an opinion but (aside from aforementioned bias) they're relatively rigorous with empirical testing so probably some truth to it.

We Found The BEST Way To Cool Your Home - Part 2

Still necessary to keep temps above dew point, but recommendation is to run a night only to cool the thermal mass of the (presumed to be brick) building itself. This then maintains a decent temp the following day without any active cooling needed. 2/

The HeatGeeks would disagree (though I have noticed they seem to have some implicit bias against A2A) They've made a low energy fan system that you clip on the bottom of radiators to assist with air circulation. 1/

So the fact SpaceX massively reduced the cost to orbit is hugely beneficial to all the good stuff people are doing to help our planet. It's just also hugely beneficial to pointless consumerist crap as well

Plenty of unnecessary space nonsense but sorting out Earth very much needs satellites. Measuring weather & atmospheric conditions for climate models, land use changes, methane emissions, forest fires... All crucial to getting house trained and all only possible with low-cost access to Earth orbit

In the case of this family member he's still got the same big friend group, close family relationships, good job. He's happy to argue his case, it's just an argument based on clearly nonsense evidence that he seems to be blind to despite his smarts Maybe just a complete lack of media literacy

I have a very smart family member unfortunately afflicted A few years ago they were a climate change denier (or perhaps 'skeptic' a better term), now they've moved on to great replacement conspiracies (apparently western govts are secretly suppressing a wave of arson attacks on Christian churches)

I can't find the studies right now, but best evidence shows harmful associations specifically for kids that *post* on social media, rather than just read it. That is a smaller group that makes your argument a bit weaker IMO

Well achtschually and (hopefully) reassuringly, while AMOC collapse is very much a risk if it does collapse it will happen gradually over a century or two. So 'soon' isn't quite the right word here

Ok great, we both agree killing civilians is bad. So why did you take umbrage with someone saying "I hope no civilians were killed"?

Agree the OP may be some sort of troll but I don't think we should be basing our morals on what the Russian state would do! I also hope no civilians were harmed in this attack because the moral high ground is a nice spot and I plan on staying there

AFAIK the only alt milk to avoid as a conscientious consumer is almond as it has a much larger environmental footprint than other alts (though still much less than cow milk) Oat has smallest environmental footprint, while soy is the most nutritious

485 million years enough? That extremely sharp uptick right at the edge of the graph, indicating a faster temperature change than at any other point, is the temperature change we're observing right now
Graph showing estimated average global temperatures over the last 485 million years, sourced from the NOAA. Temperatures vary between 10° and 35°C. The most recent data has global temperatures at around 10°C, followed by a sudden spike up to around 15°C indicating a faster temperature change than at any other point in the period covered by the graph

The only intrinsic difference with solid evidence is that female brains tend to be slightly more susceptible to social cues than male brains. That's it - and 'slightly' is a crucial word here! But does make one ponder about how this could lead to different cultural gender norms on a population level

The Gendered Brain is a very well researched book, concludes that while hormones obviously do lots of things to the body they don't appear to do much to the brain. In fact, almost all observed differences between sexes can be explained by plasticity and gendered socialization from a very young age

I think that's unlikely, the building will be rated to handle every tenant and guests standing on their balcony at once and solar panels are much lighter than a person
000
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
What's more, anecdotally I know of several apartments where you strictly can't have anything overhanging your balcony (presumably for safety/liability reasons) so won't be able to get setups like that in the article image. But could still have it behind the balcony railing somewhere

And important to make sure you're comparing SD technology of similar quality. The child shaped obstacle getting run over was with Tesla FSD software, which is substantially less safe than Waymo and not approved for unsupervised usage in any case
000
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
That's not evidence, it's anecdote The only reasonable question is whether SD cars do that more or less than humans, which means we need to know the frequency of these events relative to how often the cars are driven I know you get this, it's obvious stuff. Don't waste time on bad arguments
200
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Then there's no evidence available to compare safety and you're just assuming worse The sensible metric is accidents per mile driven, and while there is public evidence of accidents the only data on miles driven is from the car companies You say we can't trust that data, so impossible to check

I can only speak for the UK, but rural bus services here haemorrhage money and are constantly getting shut down. So my point still stands And I was more thinking suburbia than rural areas, I agree they'll probably never be self-drivable
200
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
This is conspiratorial thinking, so literally impossible to argue against, but I will say that transit authorities (at least in the UK) are very much trying to sell you bus travel! So by your argument no difference in motivation
100
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Public transport is great for densely populated cities and absolutely could replace almost all car use. But that's not the case for sparsely populated suburbs, it will simply never be cost effective. 'On-demand' public transport - i.e. taxis - are the only workable option
100
Shubbardinio Hubarde esq. @shubbardo.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
If we're going into 'I don't believe anything a self driving car company says' territory then there's not really any argument to be made other than 'I don't trust self driving cars' and nothing else to say on the matter!
