This is a Tunisian oil sold by Costco that’s my everyday workhorse for cooking. I have several different finishing oils for various applications, ranging from super peppery to buttery to grassy.

You can absolutely buy imported olive and avoid the fake stuff. Look for some combination of 1) single origin/single variety (avoid blends); 2) EU certifications (such as DOP) for European oils; 3) a bottled/harvested on date stamped on the bottle along with a best used by date.

This is the way. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t use extra virgin olive oil for high heat cooking such as searing or frying either—despite the low smoke point it degrades less than most other oils. The main reason not to deep fry in it is expense.

The pattern makes me think it was a lactose issue, which I don’t normally have problems with. The aversion to eggs lasted until the very end, but I was able to eat them *in the hospital the morning after delivery*. Bodies are weird.

The worst was when I had terrible cravings for milk. The dairy trigger diminished over time but took longer to go away than the general nausea, starting with cheese, then yogurt, and then milk. One night I begged my partner for a glass of milk, and he’s like “Are you sure?” “YES!” And insta-barf.

When the nausea finally subsided I’d say things like “[BABY] WANTS CARROTS”, which meant someone needed to bring me carrot sticks FAST. [Baby] also frequently wanted guacamole for some reason.

If you can’t afford a full passport book, a passport card is a cheaper option. That won’t get you on a plane, but you can still cross a land border. Yes I grew up hearing stories from family members about fleeing in the middle of the night with what they could carry, why do you ask?

The eastern part of the Mediterranean all eat the same foods, though the names are pronounced slightly differently. Many Turkish place names still have their older Greek root embedded (Constantinople/Istanbul, Smyrna/Izmir, Nikaea/Iznik). Turkish origin words are still used by modern Greek speakers.

Literally cut fruit, water, black tea, dry Cheerios, *Doritos* (yes Doritos, I craved them, maybe for the salt?), and plain roasted chicken or turkey (not cold cuts, ROASTED), but only sometimes and not too much of it. Oh also sometimes dry rolls or bread.

I am quite positive that I would had died without modern medical treatment. Zofran three times a day for months enabled me to keep water down and eat dry Cheerios and cut fruit and I still lost significant weight in the first trimester. I only went for it once though. Couldn’t do it again. 🫂

I had hyperemesis but never had to be hospitalized. I hope the nausea diminishes. Mine lasted until about 24 weeks and not the whole pregnancy, thankfully. May you not be plagued by people who ask if you’ve tried ginger tea or wristbands.
