getting an order in juuuust under the wire for a new sketchbook for @lightboxexpo.com! Volume 2 of WIP, a monument to messy, painful, extremely human process:

christ almighty how does one choose—Sex Girl Patrol? "Is He?" with the C/Kathys? Dipping areas? Or could it simply be the brief interlude cataloguing Scott Thompson's various celebrity doppelgangers, that culminates in a pretty uncanny Jeffrey Dahmer:

a side-by-side comparison of Jeffrey Dahmer and Scott Thompson from Kids in the Hall.

evan it is FASCINATING to me that Myst/Exile were formative but not Riven, a rare breed

Oh that makes me so happy to hear!! It really felt like coming home, getting to work on (and eventually play!) the remake. 🥰

My dad's wife is related to Richard Outcault, so they have a ton of Buster Brown originals that she inherited up around the house! I feel like it is my solemn duty to contribute to this nightmare 🫡

I'd categorize it as queer in the way Rebecca is queer! Like wow is this jealousy or adoration or resentment or horniness or all of the above mixed up together????

My dad (who now specializes in film restoration & archiving, coincidentally) was working at Disney during this era—I remember playing around with CAPS at the Paris studio during A Goofy Movie! Definitely going to send this his way, what a fascinating read.

The major beats are the same, of course, but the original was rushed out the door during the final year of production on Riven—we worked alongside Rand to fine tune it, bring some of the story and characterizations back in line with the other books, and the series as a whole. 😄

Claire Hummel @shoomlah.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

they're all gently revised based on the original texts to varying degrees (both Book of Atrus and Book of Ti'ana had their desert scenes relocated to New Mexico as of the latest releases), but Book of D'ni has been pretty heavily reworked!

130

Claire Hummel @shoomlah.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

These editions are going to be fantastic, and I think Book of D'ni is legitimately a better book after all of Harrison's work on it. I hope you get a kick out of them!

140

Claire Hummel @shoomlah.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

I am admittedly biased but Book of D'ni, the third book, is pretty universally painted as the weakest of the trilogy—it was written while Riven was in its last year of development, so it didn't get nearly as much attention as Cyan would have wanted at the time.

210

Claire Hummel @shoomlah.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

An EXTREMELY selfish Kickstarter in that I'm just making the editions of these books that I've always wanted—cannot put into words how much love and care we've poured into every aspect this project!📚🩵 ...and it's no accident that @gilespink.bsky.social now has a writing credit on the Book of D'ni 👀
