ECtHR dismisses the case brought by the men sentenced for the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. The proceedings were not unfair. The appointment of legal aid lawyers had been reasonable in the circumstances. The men's guilty pleas had been entered into voluntarily and not under duress.

"3,061 terrorism-related arrests in the year ending 31 March 2026, a 1,186% increase compared with previous year". Did terrorism in the UK grow by 12 times in one year? No. The govt started treating protesters as terrorists. 92% terror arrests linked to Palestine Action. www.gov.uk/government/s...

It is to our shame that the person who wrote such a letter is an elected Parliamentarian.

The Metropolitan Police are investigating a political donation made to Robert Jenrick’s campaign to be Conservative leader. They have been examining claims that a £37,500 donation originated from a foreign donor, following a referral from the Electoral Commission.

No wonder Farage decided to resign rather than face a Parliamentary inquiry, if this is his defence - as Reform chairman, he wasn't politically active, he was just a social media influencer and GB News reporter.

ECtHR: Lithuania breached Articles 6 (fair trial) and 8 (private life) and Articles 2 (right to life) and 3 (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment) read together with A1P6 (abolition of the death penalty) in the case of a man transferred from Lithuanian to US territory.

As if our media and politicians weren't enough to unnecessarily create hatred and incite the public, it's awful that the CPS joined in too. It issued an inaccurate press release claiming this was a "knifepoint" rape, when the judge had decided that was not the case.

Two of the boys given non-custodial sentences for rape have been sentenced to 4 years' detention by Court of Appeal. The court has criticised media and politicians for misinformed, inaccurate and inappropriate reporting and remarks. Court particularly critical of CPS for inaccurate press release.

"Asylum decision makers (DMs), team leaders, and other staff were stressed, anxious, and worried on a regular basis. 69.8% of DMs stated that they wanted to “leave as soon as possible” or “within the next 12 months”, citing low morale, poor mental health, anxiety, stress, exhaustion, and sickness".

Independent report: "In 2025, 47 of the 348 cases of grant decisions ... were sampled. Findings showed that 37 (78.72%) contained insufficient evidence on which to make a decision and were therefore likely to be incorrect". 78% of asylum decisions are "likely to be incorrect". 78%.

Hope the members of the public who will decide asylum claims will be better trained than Home Office decision-makers are. An independent report published just last week found that 78% of decisions were "likely to be incorrect".

This was said about our immigration laws years ago, and since then the "extraordinarily complex" "impenetrable jungle" has become even more complicated. So good luck to the "members of the public" tasked with making these very important, often life-or-death decisions.

Thousands of barristers have told juries about the Old Bailey plaque about the established “right of juries to give their verdict according to their convictions". In Elbit protesters' case, the judge specifically prohibited the barrister from referring to this or telling the jury about this right.

Judge's direction to jury in case of protesters at Elbit Systems: "If defendant believed they were morally justified in doing what they did to prevent what they thought was genocide, that would not amount to lawful excuse. No evidence in this case is capable in law of amounting to lawful excuse".

She herself had not breached any conditions the authorities had imposed and any disruption by other protesters was in spite of her instructing them to comply. The conviction was disproportionate.

ECtHR: France breached ECHR Article 6 (Right to Fair Trial) in its treatment of a 16-year-old rape complainant who, once the rape case was not made out, was issued a caution for making a false accusation, without her having admitted guilt or the usual fair trial safeguards being applied.

Lord Sales: The UK was heavily involved in ECHR creation. The ECHR was a UK invention, designed to internationalise the constitutional values (or human rights) which British subjects had long enjoyed. An English lawyer would not have considered anything surprising in the ECHR rights themselves.

So glad I could attend this very special evening in memory of the legendary Conor Gearty. Warm, fitting tributes, celebrating a human rights giant and the loveliest of people. As was said, Conor would have been delighted with an entire evening of people singing his praises. You are missed, Conor.

ECtHR case of Osman Kavala has been relinquished to the Grand Chamber. He has been jailed since 2017. Previously, ECtHR found breaches of Articles 5 (right to liberty), 4 (right to a speedy decision on the lawfulness of detention), and 18, ordering Turkey to release him. But he remains imprisoned.

There's argument in favour of ECtHR recalibrating caselaw by progressively limiting scope of qualified rights when issues are not considered to lie at core of the right. ECHR should be more forcefully leveraged as framework of fundamental freedoms targeting arbitrary use of state power: Robert Spano

There is simply no factual or substantive nexus between the ECHR and the cadence of boats illegally arriving on the shores of this country. Article 8 does not preclude the UK from expelling foreign criminals and any limitations imposed can only apply in really exceptional circumstances: Robert Spano

"Now, more than ever, ECHR’s guarantees against dangers of unrestrained and oppressive majoritarianism are needed. There is no question the fundamental freedoms embedded in ECHR continue to be worth fighting for, and calls in to withdraw from ECHR system are unprincipled and unwise": Robert Spano

"We must reconsider a purely individualistic rights-based model of human rights law and attempt to progressively revert back to its genesis as a framework of human freedoms, constraining arbitrary and oppressive government power, also encompassing individual duties & responsibilities": Robert Spano

"Human rights, as a political and moral value system, is losing ground. One fears a hurricane of horrors might be brewing. It may be a tropical storm at present, but rapid intensification into Category 4 or 5 is by no means unlikely": Robert Spano, ex-president of the European Court of Human Rights.

This is what the government has been saying about eVisas. So, why do we need digital IDs? Every time they come up with yet another idea to monitor us and further control our lives, they claim this one is the panacea for all our problems.

Digital IDs are a terrible, dangerous idea for numerous reasons. But, even on their own terms, what's the gap they're supposed to fill? It seems many people don't realise that we already have eVisas. All migrants get this "digital record" of their status and permission anyway.
