I know the zelda cycle always happens, people whinge and moan about the art style until they look at it for a hotter minute. But as someone who remains that OoT is one of their favorite games ever, I'm just side-eyeing the old kokiri forest when people say the remake looks soulless

Kokiri forest from pre-remake Ocarina of Time 3D. A map built off of the limitations of the Nintendo 64, and I can't fathom how people think the remake looks like a mockery. I would think the Kokiri kids would live in a whimsical woodsy wonderland than a clearing full of stumps...

I definitely have my gripes on some details in the oot remake, but griping that it stripped the game of style and soul just sounds silly. Imagine if kokiri forest had the same exact setup as the original, just updated graphics. You can't tell me that'd be better than the overgrowth in the remake

I don't even think the topic of redraw trends are that serious past acknowledging the origin. Most I see is a problem with "originality" and drawing what you want vs the perceived need to get numbers, but I'd assume artists simply have fun drawing these trends, so it's pretty trivial

I think there is a talk to be had about artists always following redraw trends, for a few reasons. By comparing this to the plague the artists have to fight against, you imagined a reason and proceeded to throw them under the bus for this imagined reason. That's not how you reach out to people...

i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.

I think recasting voice roles for remakes and such should be commonly accepted practice. If the thing being remade was considerably old, who are you to be a petty diva when fresher voices are trusted with already beloved roles? I sure don't want the VA space to be a clique full of divas!
