We're looking for a postdoc to study the neuronal mechanisms of positive emotions and social play in rats. Expertise in circuit neuroscience, in vivo ephys, and quantitative analysis is essential. Experience in affective circuit is highly desirable. www.einzigartigwir.de/stellenangeb...

Our new paper shows that humans can correctly judge the emotional valence of frequency-shifted rat ultrasonic vocalizations, suggesting that some features of vocal emotional communication may be conserved across species, even beyond humans' natural auditory range. www.frontiersin.org/journals/psy...

Astronauts train for years, yet on the ISS they end up doing somersaults and floating things around for fun. Even super-elite pros who understand all the physics can’t resist playing when they encounter a new physicality. Play really does seem to be a fundamental behavior.

Being surprised that "rats are ticklish too" is somewhat rude to rats. They were already ticklish long before humans existed.

@neuroetho.bsky.social Quote #2: "I know what people think about, but I don't understand why animals behave the way they do. So I study animal behavior." Since hearing that, I stopped thinking of non-human animals as "model species" to understand humans. They are subjects in their own right.

I remember ~10 years ago @neuroetho.bsky.social was saying he wanted words meaning “in vivo freely moving” in the style of “in vivo”, “ex vivo” etc. He called it “in movimento” 🇮🇹(or did he say “en movimiento”?🇺🇾) I agree, I want a short version. I wish this would become popular.

Mice do play with humans: Our new study found that selective breeding makes mice more playful toward both humans and other mice. We also found that both mice and hamsters produce distinct vocalizations depending on the species of their interaction partner. authors.elsevier.com/a/1lsK5_3oCG...

Why can’t we tickle ourselves? Why do kids enjoy it but adults don’t? Pleasure or discomfort—or even sensual? Did you know there are two types? A new review delves into the neurobiology of ticklishness: sensory, emotional, sociosexual, and evolutionary. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
