when i was a kid i had a pair of pyjamas that had glow-in-the-dark snowflakes and polar bears and such which i thought was so cool but i never really got to wear it cuz it never really got cold enough and i'm extremely sensitive to most fabrics. which is sad. i need glow-in-the-dark clothes.

i knew this year's season was challenging but i didn't know that the cherry crop was almost wiped out in places. last year all these farmers kept telling me how the weather was so amazing for fruit. but this year, the late deep freezes meant i haven't been able to find sour cherries at all...

man i had a flashback to when i was a little kid and my mom was teaching me how to cook, folding dumplings and spring rolls and cooking eggs and shrimp and then moving on to stir fries and such. and then i just sort of started doing my own thing and tried out all these new modern techniques and such

i find some dishes interesting because you can see how they came out of a place of wanting something new instead of eating the same old wheat noodles every day. my favorite example is the chinese liangpi which takes a wheat dough and you rinse the starch out of it to get a blob of gluten

also a black sapote, in the persimmon genus diospyros which is also where ebony wood comes from. it's sometimes called the chocolate pudding fruit but... the flavor is... eh. it's like a mild watery persimmon with earthy notes. i had fun trying it but it really isn't that interesting.

i'm falling behind on my fruitposting. this is wampee fruit (黄皮果) and it's one of the fruits i've known of since childhood but never got to try until i became an adult. sweet grape-like interior with a sour, super resinous peel, citrusy (it's in the citrus family). it's expensive outside of asia

so they had these (rosy?) red valencia oranges which seem to be a new introduction, they're red cuz of lycopene just like cara cara navels and not cuz of anthocyanins like blood oranges. i like these more than cara cara navels, a lot juicier

i had an awful idea. it's a rhythm game where, if you miss the beat, if you hit it on the beat, or if you're consistently early/late you don't get points. instead you have to randomly hit it slightly early or late. i call it "beata blocker", cuz beta blockers are used for arrhythmias

man in the past few years i've been extremely lucky to get to try some of my dream fruits fresh. like jabuticaba, ugli fruit, wampee, black raspberry, ... i still have quite a few i wanna try out that are even harder to find fresh here though, like lingonberry, cloudberry, acerola...

also got two dragonfruits(selenicereus undatus) not to be confused with other yellow dragonfruits that are sometimes called "kirin fruit" (selenicereus megalanthus). the yellow one is more floral and delicate, the red one has more assertive earthy notes. both are predominantly mild kiwi/melon

i couldn't find loganberries or tayberries though unfortunately. tayberries i think are one of the best bramble berries available but they're so fragile and perishable. and where i live, they don't sell usually citrus like satsumas or ugli fruit either which makes me sad.
