7. I know it sounds dramatic, but if history teaches us anything, it's that after devouring one target and celebrating its success, the monster will only grow hungrier. Most citizens of the West live without thinking about the death and suffering that could be unleashed against them.

Somewhat ironically, the first man has a German made Zeiss Super Ikonta 6x6 camera (it was already marketed before the war).

It's OK, large format on tripod is on a completely different scale. More weight and money/time spent, less shots. And usually also, you operate on a small radius around the studio (or car/bike). It feels refreshingly different to me.

I used 120 Shanghai once, I could see the numbers from the backing paper on the negative 😅. Also, not convinced by the rendition/grain. No go, Foma is leagues better.

Well, I have used it a lot these past 10 years. It never let me down, from 200 to 1600, LC29, caffenol, etc. Boring maybe but it just does work well... Not much visible grain in medium format and up, nice speed. I use Foma to play around, HP5 or FP4 when I really want to come back with something.

A look inside the Kiev 5
Recently I bought a Kiev 5 camera off ebay with broken shutter straps. It was around $100 and was one of the earlier ones made in 1968 (sn 6800296). I've previously successfully changed the shutter ri...

Testing a Kiev 5 after some DIY repair (stuck frame counter, stripped nut in the winding arm). I spent years gathering Zeiss lenses, on and off, I'd like a platform to use these. I hope it works, I really don't intend to do this regularly 😬 #repair #film #filmphotography #believeinfilm

Actually, the other 6mm was in better shape and is now OK to use. Still have to finish cleaning the accessories. Even the latch of the small wooden box was rusted out and had to be replaced 😮 #watchmaking #horology #repair

The big one can be a WW Boley, unmarked. Crusty, but still functional. I'll have to decide if it is still worth the time spent cleaning it, removing the flaky nickel plating and the surface rust, and repainting. Reference: www.lathes.co.uk/boley/page3.... #watchmaking #horology #repair

Last week-end I hauled home these lathes, at least 10kg of rusty steel... 1 WW pattern 8mm Boley 1 8mm Lorch, incomplete 2 older Lorch 6mm + lots of useful bits and pieces Not critical for me as I have what I need already, but it makes me sad seeing these rust away. #watchmaking #horology #repair

Special effects only, ihmo. It may be OK on dark/funky objects, like a refinery at dawn, or specific portraits. I personally would not use it for "regular" daytime streetshooting or landscape, I could not make it work. you could have fun figuring out what this film can be good at 😄

My chances of finding a correct set jewel were close to zero. So I drilled out the setting, push fitted the bushing, reamed it, push fitted the jewel and ajusted its height. Now after cleaning and rebuilding, this Longines is upgraded from junk to timekeeper. #watchmaking #repair #photography

After the staff swap, I discovered that a balance jewel was "repaired" previously... a modern flat jewel was just shoved in place of a domed one, flopping around into the destroyed setting. Nice job. So I searched for a modern domed jewel and a bushing... #watchmaking #repair #photography

I've been given a Nikon D810, it will replace my D800 which has focus problems. No more taking 5 close ups to have one sharp! Also, the mirror feels more damped. 😀 => Pictures, yay! Vintage french thingies I got recently (glass cartridge #fountainpen, Gibbs adjustable razor) #photography

This one is not so delicate: big balance on a 19 lignes so the hairspring being blued steel has some strength. On a smaller wristwatch with a modern light balance though, it can be easily deformed indeed.

The Rolleiflex is heavier but much nicer than the 'blad. The 3.5f is practical, the prewar Automat is surprisingly easy to use and very light. The 2.8C is too pretty to be banged around and feels top heavy... #film #filmphotography #ibelieveinfilm

After years waffling about my Hassy 500 (service it? get a 80 instead of the 100 I don't like much? get a C/M and be able to focus a shot in less than 2 minutes with a proper screen?)... I got a SL66. 😅 Now, how many 'flexes are too many? I may sell the 500 and the 2.8C if the SL66 feels OK.
