People cheer Democrats because they know what they will do when they win but, more importantly, they know what Republicans do when they win, any idiot should by now.

We need to resurrect, "negative credibility," the idea that, when caught in enough lies, the safe bet is to always presume that a source is lying.

Personally, probably. But the larger purpose, like ICE terrorism, is to demonstrate authority and power and desensitize the population to state violence.

mainstream, and hard-fought equality rights are not easily abandoned. Republican oligarchy is fighting for a return to the cultural norms of the 40s and 50s when white men of means ruled with unbridled authority and respect. They can't win but they're willing to set the world afire in the attempt.

If you've lived a while and think about what has changed, the response of rightwing reactionaries and establishment conservative makes sense. The norms advocated by the counter-culture of the 60s-70s, and advanced by the George Floyd protests and MeToo – equal rights for women, POC, LGBTQ – became

Public executions, including lynchings and mob violence, are always focused on larger messages about control and power, and what we are experiencing, both with this firing squad and daylight killings by ICE, is the normalization of fascistic state power owning the right to life and death.

It appears Americans are finally coming to their senses, which only happens when the GOP screws the pooch so badly, it cuts through the false equivalence and Dem-blaming of the mainstream press. In fact, it was blame for COVID and economic woes wrongly attached to Joe Biden which reelected Trump.

This can be understood only within the context of class warfare and the fact that the ruling class has made peace with treason and fascism if it means more wealth and cultural dominance, as if that were possible.

"Big money" is not merely corruption, it's a feature of corporate oligarchy, which is all forms of corruption combined, plus treasonous interference with government. However, if reformers still cannot even use words like "oligarchy," or "treason," or "fascism," how can we ever hope to defeat them?
000
shep @shepherdone.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
"curb corruption" - demolish corporate oligarchy. If we can't even say it, how are we going to do it?

Trump's psychopathy, misogyny, racism, dishonestly, and narcissism have been on full display since day one, it never mattered to the ruling class so it never slowed Trump's ascent.

OTOH, if the US were a true democracy, we would never have had to endure either the Bush II or Trump presidencies.

Pathetic, yes. But also illustrates how oligarchy controls politics by literally writing the dictionary of acceptable phrasing, no matter how absurd. Hence, "Global Warming" (accurate) becomes "Climate Change," and "Artificial Intelligence" becomes "Superintelligence," which it can never be.

Many of us have returned to the more scientifically accurate phrase for gradual anthropogenic warming of the planet: "Global Warming."

Ha! If only cultists had a corner on rationalization and denial. For that matter, to look at Republican conduct and voter choices over the past decade and conclude that the fault is with the Democrats, is such a weirdly inexplicable belief it borders on delusion.

Biden, Harris, primary voters, Blue No Matter Who zealots all voted for Democrats, and guilt for disastrous choices is a helluva drug.

shep @shepherdone.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Biden primary voters primarily voted for Harris, the only people who are culpable for electing traitors and fascists are people who didn't vote for Democrats and, especially, people who made it harder for Democrats to win.

Is there any doubt that they would if: a) they thought it would work to keep them in power and b) they thought they could get away with it.

shep @shepherdone.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
With Dem supermajorities, centrist ratfucking get harder to do. Either way, elections are longer a question about Democrats, the Republican Party simply must be removed from government, at least until they stop being traitors and fascists.

Now only a fencepost would take anything Trump says at face value but much of what he says now *is* exposed id. We shouldn't forget that powerful psychopaths remember how 9/11 fervor propelled Bush's two terms and what they were willing to do the last time they were about to lose. shorturl.at/3mSdI

I don't have to address your presumptions, I'll just tell you Democrats will never defeat corporate oligarchy as long as voters keep failing to give them the power to do it.
