A book group book. Written by an ANU academic this book gives first hand insight into climate change science & the IPCC process while at the same time documenting the emotional, philosophical, and political journey of a climate scientist. At once disheartening and uplifting.

I’m not usually into historical fiction & this was no exception. Beautifully written, well researched telling of Mrs Touchet, the cousin/housekeeper/lover of Victorian novelist William Ainsworth. But never really drew me completely in to world and it’s characters.

A coming of age novel following The Girl, A Malaysian-Chinese Australian writer on residency in the UK. Marketed as adult fiction, it felt more YA - or maybe I’m just old and crusty and out of touch. Some moments of beautiful introspection but felt overly earnest. Bah Humbug.

A thread of micro book reviews: Dalton weaves a fantastical story that gives us the marvellous voice of 12 yo Eli Bell & his voiceless brother August. In part a fictionalised autobiography, in part a love letter to Brisbane, it is laugh out loud funny, gritty, and heartbreaking in equal measure.

Taste by Stanley Tucci. I finished this yesterday. An inspiring memoir told through food. Wry, warm, full to the brim with deliciousness. On completion I headed straight to the supermarket & the butcher & spent the entire afternoon cooking. Then we watched Big Night. Pure, unadulterated joy.
